Eco Sewing & Crafting = creativity with love for the environment

Cucicucicoo: Eco Sewing & Crafting was born in early 2009 as Cucicucicoo: Ecological Living, after I had started sewing cloth diapers and baby wipes for my first child and cloth menstrual pads for myself after a miscarriage. I started making these reusable products mainly out of worry for the waste that I was creating with disposable diapers, wipes and pads. I soon came to understand that these reusable products were wonderful for other reasons, too, and I wanted to share this realization here in Italy, where eco-friendly products hadn’t caught on yet and were pretty much impossible to find. I did this through my blog, Cucicucicoo, and selling my sewn cloth products online and at local markets.

I found that there were a lot of misconceptions about these products, and the people I spoke to or wrote to realized that reusable products can be fun, with the happy colors and quirky fabrics that I love, but are also comfortable and easy to care for.

Fast forward a few years, I am a busy mother of two and teacher of English as a Foreign Language. My blogging topics had been moving more and more towards teaching by showing sewing technique and tutorials, and I created the much loved “Learn to Machine Sew” free course for beginners on my website. I was also finding it harder and harder to keep up inventory and deal with frustrating Italian bureaucracy, so I made the decision to stop selling my sewn products, and instead sell the patterns so that ecological-minded women (and men!) could make their own reusable and eco-friendly products.

Thus was born Cucicucicoo Patterns, my online shop of eco-sustainable sewing patterns. These designs are either for items that substitute disposable products or they are conceived with the repurposing of other materials in mind. And, because I am a teacher, I am very careful about making ever step as clear as possible so that even beginners can try their hand at sewing their own wonderful personalized items!

Please be sure to check out my blog at, where you can find hundreds of fantastic and free sewing patterns and craft tutorials, and so many other great creative ideas!

Welcome to Cucicucicoo Patterns! My name’s Lisa and I’m a US expat, wife and mamma living near Naples, Italy. I publish sewing and crafting lessons and tutorials at Cucicucicoo: Eco Sewing & Crafting (, where I also offer the free beginner’s sewing course, “Learn to Machine Sew.” I also design sewing patterns for my shop, Cucicucicoo Patterns.

I am greatly troubled by the ever worsening environmental crisis and, in the hopes of leaving the Earth in better condition for our children and grandchildren, I strongly believe that each and every one of us can make a difference, even in small ways. This is why I focus on being creative with respect for the environment, both through the use of environmentally friendly usable products and through the repurposing of materials. It’s often surprising just how much you can make with what is already around you!

The designs at Cucicucicoo Patterns reflect my dual passions for giving space to creativity and safeguarding the world around us. I hope you enjoy my designs and use them for some totally guilt-free sewing!
