Layout for wood combinations is done on the garage floor.
Dining room table where maps are glued and clamped before cutting which is done in the garage.
Gluing up the maps is done at the dining room table where I can watch TV at the same time.
My office where business is conducted and inventory is stored.
The maps are cut out of the back of my van until I can lift the 4 x 8' piece of plywood myself to the garage.

Sharing State Pride

My shop has evolved over the years from my love of hunting for and selling vintage items found at flea markets to making hand crafted wall decor. I originally started making Ohio maps to sell with our refurbished furniture when my daughter and I were vendors at local shows and fleas. As the maps always sold very well at our shows, I discovered I could carry this popular selling item over to my Etsy shop where I could expand to handcrafting every state and mail all over the country.
The "State Side Collection" is wall decor that is made from vintage road maps. The states are hand cut from plywood to which the map is applied. Edges of the map are wrapped carefully around the sides of the wood to give the wall hanging a clean, finished look.
The "Wood Tones Collection" and "Home Pride Collection" are new to the shop this year and are made from various types of wood that have been glued together onto a thin wood background, which holds them solidly together. From these beautiful combinations of wood, the shapes of the states are cut.
I have very much enjoyed learning about our states and their interesting shapes as I make them. But even more, I enjoy finding each state a home where it is cherished as a birthplace, a current living place, or just a place that carries fond memories. It is an original way to customize your home with unique decor and to show your state pride.
