Additional policies and FAQs
Precious metal clay is a substance originally developed in Japan in the 1990's. It is a clay made up of very fine reclaimed silver particles mixed with a non-toxic organic binder. It can be shaped and sculpted much like porcelain. When dry the pieces are sanded and inspected, then fired in a kiln to temperatures above 1600 deg F. This burns away the organic binder leaving a pure silver piece that is then finished with traditional silver smithing techniques resulting in a piece of jewelry that is 99.9% pure silver with no copper or nickel.
***CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY***
My jewelry is purposely oxidized and/or colored in the recessed areas and polished on the surface areas. To brighten the polish if/ when needed, I recommend gently rubbing the piece with a jeweler's polishing cloth.
The more you wear your jewelry, the less it will tarnish!
After wearing your jewelry simply wipe it off with a soft cloth to remove any oils, perfumes, etc. that may be lingering on the piece and store it away in a heavy zipper bag with a piece of plain white chalk.
Tarnish is the result of sulfur in the air reacting with the metals and staining the surface black. Plain white chalk absorbs the sulfur.
For general cleaning and brightening if needed, gently wipe your jewelry down with a jeweler's polishing cloth. Never roughly rub, pull or tug on your jewelry or chains. Soapy, lukewarm water and a very soft paint or makeup brush is fine for gentle cleaning.
Jewelry should be taken off before swimming, sleeping, bathing, strenuous activity, and using harsh chemicals or mechanical machinery.
My lampwork art and jewelry pieces will last a lifetime and can be passed down through the generations, if cared for properly. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you would like to discuss a custom order.
