About

I began my shop Dabbling Delights on etsy in 2008. It has been a long journey since then and a lot of twists and turns have happened to get me where I am today in life and in my shop on etsy.

In 2007, I was pursuing a career in art licensing and looking for an agent. I had a meeting with a licensing coach and she saw my floral note cards. She thought they were so lovely and suggested I try to sell them on etsy, S,o in 2008 I opened up my shop Dabbling Delights. I was so excited to have a venue online to sell my cards and other handmade items I created.

I have always loved making things with my hands. It may be because I am a daughter of a passionate toy designer/ inventor who worked for Kohner Bros toys. My Dad was an awesome creative force, full of fun. He would often bring things like factory rejects home from the toy plant for us to make new things out of them. So, I believe I had creativity in my blood. Sadly, my Dad passed when I was 14.

I have always loved cutting, gluing, pasting, painting, collaging, folding and so on. Even as a younger child, and after my Dads passing, I collected lots of materials to create things and I kept them in a closet. At night, when everyone was sleeping, I would sneak downstairs and get out my box of crafty things. I would look at everything in the box and dreamed of the days with my Dad and the joy of making stuff. I didn’t dare to use the beautiful fabrics and papers etc. o make things and I was waiting for the ideal time and place.

Eventually, I went to college and my craftiness was put aside for a education in Graphic Design. While in college, I managed to sneak in projects that were zany and not the typical Graphic Design projects most students were designing. I made a large paper sheepdog, plexi-glass store sign, foil gift bags (before they were a mainstay) and clothing that moved with the human body. People often commented that they wee not sure what my major was in because I was on my own creating my own world and education.

After college, I went on my own and began painting t-shirts and pillows and eventually found my way to art licensing. I converted my pillow designs to 2D art and on I forged ahead to license my art. I taught myself Photoshop in three months and I was still looking for an licensing agent and I started my shop Dabbling Delights.

In 2009, after a fun and creative Ceramic class, I had a 10lb ceramic vase fall on top of my head. I did not seem to have a concussion, but 2-3 weeks after the accident, I started having a compelling tug and pull to paint on canvas and express myself more. The pull was so intense. So I signed up for a class and abandoned my Ceramics class after 20 + years. Yes. I became a painter. Still don’t know if the calling to paint is from the head injury or not but I followed the path that was calling me.
During the past 7 years, I have still been crafting my world into a fun filled reality. I love having my etsy shop for the handmade products I create and I have created some interesting things over the years from birdie garland to floral beaded bookmarks and paper lantern mobiles. Etsy has opened up my creative thinking to coming up with unique products. It was hard for me to think about giving up my childhood love of ‘making things’ and etsy has enabled me to keep on creating my whimsy.
I opened 2 other shops on etsy but eventually I decided to focus on Dabbling Delights and start up my painting shop http://www.lorenfidalgoart.etsy.com This is a great balance of both sides of my brain working in ways that amaze me sometimes. Dabbling Delights gives me the freedom to use my hands in many different ways. It is calming and relaxing. I believe that my hands and my brain are so intrinsically linked and research has shown that crocheters activate a certain part of the brain that controls emotions, thus producing positive feelings from moving their hands. It may be why I love to make things! Go figure. Thanks for reading about my complex journey.
Cheers, Loren
P.S. you can read more about my head injury in my painting shop's ABOUT page. Head on over to lorenfidalgoart

Welcome to my shop dabblingdelights. I am so excited to be a part of Etsy. I have been looking for a forum to sell my illustrations and crafts for a long time. Etsy is such a great place for me to exhibit my designs and I hope it becomes a great place for you to look and shop,as well. So, take a stroll through my shop to find that special something.

I use a top secret, trademark technique to produce all of my designs and patterns, and that's what gives my work it's unique look. All of my designs, patterns, images and illustrations are created entirely in house, by me. PSST... since a good secret never stays secret for too long, here's a little of the inside scoop. I hand draw all my images on bristol board or drawing paper, and then I scan them into the computer, arranging them in a creative way that gives them their special appeal. I work in color pencil, graphite, pastel, ink and watercolor. I like to create my designs as a collection that are grouped by visual themes and concepts. I enjoy creating beautiful and inspirational art, as well as, kicking up my heels, and doing some real fun stuff, too. So, feel free to have a little fun yourself!

For more information about me, check out my bio. It will give you a good idea about me as a person, as well as, an artist. If you are interested in more information about my work, please contact me by email or my website www.lorenfidalgo.com. Thanks for reading!!

Additional policies and FAQs
COPYRIGHT STUFF!
All designs on my site are protected and registered copyrights and will remain the property of myself, Loren Fidalgo. Purchasing my artwork does not include any type of transfer of copyright. I reserve the right to use all of my art that is purchased, in other venues such as , Advertising, Magazines, promotional and all other mediums on this earth and throughout the universe.
It sounds a bit GOOFY, but it may be needed one day. What happened when cassettes were replaced by CD's? The artist's rights to ownership, did not transfer over to this "new" CD medium, because it was not clearly stated in their recording contracts. David Bowie was one of a few artists that had the foresight to include protection for ownership to any and all new technologies.

LICENSING/MANUFACTURING
If you are a manufacturer and are interested in licensing my designs for commercial use, please contact me by email to discuss possibilities. If you are an agent, and are interested in representing my art, please contact me via my email address. Also, please visit my website at www.lorenfidalgo.com to view a more extensive body of work and design collections.
