Additional policies and FAQs
Due to a vintage garment's age, its fabric, seams, and fastenings may be more fragile than a new garment. Please take care with handling and laundering. Here is my comprehensive laundry guide for best results:
I recommend machine washing in cold, gentle cycle. Garments with thin, delicate fabrics, sashes or ties, old buttons, embellishments, and very old garments should be washed inside out, in a zippered mesh laundry bag.
Wash in cold water with small amount of detergent for delicates in clean sink or small plastic tub. Agitate gently. Drain water, rinse a few times in cold water until suds are gone. Handle wet garment very gently. Allow as much water as possible to drip out of garment without wringing. Lay garment flat on white towel, roll, and press out water. Reshape and dry flat on a towel, or hang dry.
Never twist or wring, and take extra care handling damp garments, as they are more fragile when wet. If you need to remove excess water, gently roll in a towel and press out water. Hang dry or reshape and dry flat on a towel. Avoid hanging in direct sun. I recommend that you NEVER dry vintage garments in the dryer.
Stained garments should be soaked or spot rinsed with cold water as soon as possible. Test any stain treatments first in an inconspicuous spot, and dab gently so you don't produce a hole. Oxy clean soaks are safe and work well. The sun works wonders on white garments, so if nothing else works, a white garment can be line dried in the sun.
Press carefully. Start the temperature on a low setting, and only raise the temperature if needed. Pressing inside out or with a white press cloth may be safest on some garments, or you may need to smooth and reshape with steam. When hanging to dry, very gently smoothing out the fabric with your hands, and "finger pressing", gently smoothing out collars, pleats, ruffles, sashes, plackets, and other details with your fingers, may eliminate the need to iron the garment altogether.
Address any tiny holes or popped seams promptly, because washing can make them worse.
If in doubt, dry clean. I will note in the listing which garments need hand washing or dry cleaning.
All vintage clothing is carefully laundered with an eco friendly soap before it is listed, unless it still has its tags or I have stated otherwise. This helps give you reassurance that the garment should be able to withstand careful laundering.
Please check measurements carefully as vintage sizing may differ from modern sizing, and some items do not have size tags. I offer my best guess of size when none is given. Best thing to do is measure a similar item that fits well and compare to the measurements I have given. If comparing clothing measurements to body measurements, please allow extra room for ease of movement. If in doubt, size up for the kiddos so there is room to grow.
I offer value priced vintage in good, wearable condition. Most vintage garments are not in pristine condition, unless noted in the listing. I do my best to note flaws in the listing. Garments may have tiny spots, pinholes, or careful mending.
Odors in vintage garments:
All items in my shop are stored in a non-smoking and pet free home, in a climate controlled environment. I am sensitive to smell, and do not sell anything with strong odors, especially anything smelling of moth balls. Everything I ship has been washed and/or aired out, and will have no strong odors. If you notice a purchase arriving with any odor, this may occasionally occur from shipping conditions. Washing the garment on cold/gentle cycle, and hanging to dry outdoors in the shade, or simply hanging and airing it out for a while, usually takes care of it.
Safety for children:
Please take all common sense precautions for children's safety, regarding all clothing and toys. Any clothing or toys with display or collectors' value only, will be noted in the listing. These items are for adults only, and must not be given to children.
