Announcement   Welcome! The paintings here are all one of a kind, ORIGINAL, and all done by me :) If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Visit my website www.DaisySky.com to find out more and join my email list to learn about special deals or events.

Yay, it's summer! I will be working a different sort of schedule so please refer to shipping times, or just ask if you have a question!

My intention has always been to share the calm and peace that I find out in the world, hoping to allow for a retreat for those who can 'read' it in the images I create. I am happiest when I am outside, and have been lucky to experience so many variations in the sky and earth. Using only encaustics; a mixture of bees wax, tree resin, and pigment - I use heat, through multiple layers, to create and personalize each painting. My goal is to paint objects that are enjoyable to look at, and peaceful when understood.

Enjoy your day!

I was intrigued by encaustic painting and this little one did not disappoint. I love, love, love it! The colors are muted in encaustic. The artist was prompt. All in all I highly recommend this artist, Gail

About

Original, Affordable, Peaceful Encaustic Paintings

Encaustic Paintings :: Kari Westphal :: Seattle WA

Welcome, and thank you for visiting!
I believe that art brings balance and harmony to our lives, much in the same way that a walk in the woods or a stroll on the beach might. It is the creation process that brings me joy. I find the focus required to work the encaustics gives me balance. Encaustic painting is a very old technique that involves color pigments melted into bees wax and resin. I limit myself to the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and black & white. I just really enjoy mixing colors from the basics :) These 'paints' are then applied in a molten state, and must be heated in order to manipulate. There are many layers. The finished painting has a rich texture and depth. The light plays off this texture, and can make the colors appear differently from different angles. It is a durable material, and is stable to 160degrees F.

My intention has always been to share the calm and peace that I find out in the world, hoping to allow for a retreat for those who can 'read' it in the images I create. I work with a subject until it becomes a part of me, and then move on, only to return to it when I need something familiar. I grew up in the mountains of California, went to college on the coast (UCSD), Graduate school in the MidWest (UW Madison), spent some time on the East Coast, and I am completely at home in the Pacific Northwest :) I am happiest when I am outside, and have been lucky to experience so many variations in the sky and earth.

I hope that my art provides an outlet; a small escape, for those who venture inside. My goal is to create objects that are enjoyable to look at, and peaceful when understood.

Enjoy your day :) ~Kari

I really love the process of painting with encaustics! It is so fun to paint with molten, pigmented wax, build the layers, and watch how it changes as it cools.
