The story behind Daisy Thirteen

We didn’t realize the impact that your stories would have on us when we started.

The idea came to us in 2014 while building our house. We saw all of these off-cuts of framing lumber, and wondered what happens to them. Upon finding out that most of them end up in the landfill, we started experimenting with painting or staining them and then using an ink transfer technique to put words onto them.

We thought it would be cool to make something that could be given as an affordable gift and be personalized if desired, without breaking the bank.

And it could be free-standing, so that you don’t have to commit to putting a hole in your wall.
And some of them would be those hilariously inappropriate things that people think but don’t say out loud. (Right?!)
And some would be inspirational, to help people going through a rough time.

And Daisy Thirteen was born.

But it was only later that we realized that these little blocks of wood become part of your story, and that these stories are what connect us all. Whether you give a block to that special someone to let them know how much you love them, or order a personalized block to remind your loved one to take their meds, or gift a block to that friend who has always shared in your love of sarcasm… we are all connected. Our story is really your story.

We are Ang & Ingmar, the slightly snarky yet kind duo behind Daisy Thirteen.
We love to travel.
We homeschool our son.
We love our cats.
We’ve lived in 3 different countries.
Ang has 2 different coloured eyes and hates cheese.
Ingmar hates the cold and eats enough cheese for both of us (he is Dutch…).

Choose from over 100 pre-designed free-standing blocks, and if you don’t find the perfect quote for that special someone… we’ll design one for you. Our custom order listing allows you to choose your size, colour, and font, and we always make a mock-up so that you can see how it will look!

Ha! But in all seriousness, our blocks are made with a whole lotta heart and soul. Unlike the big box stores, each of our blocks is totally unique because it’s made by the 2 of us, from salvaged wood.
When our customers share their stories with us, we laugh or cry with them, and we carry those stories with us every single day.

We can’t share your stories here, because they are not our stories to tell. But our blocks contain words that connect us all, so that our stories intertwine with each other.

Returns and exchange details
If you are unhappy with the workmanship, exchanges or refunds can be made within 7 days of receiving the item. Please contact us before returning. Items returned to us without contacting us first will not be refunded. Sorry, but no refunds on shipping.

U.S. Orders:
>>Please note that we are located in Canada! For our U.S. customers, this means that it will take longer than you are used to. This is because we send our packages across the border once a week with a transit company, so our lead time is always 1-2 weeks, plus the shipping time.
**At this point in time, any orders (except custom) placed by Tuesday will arrive at the USPS office on Friday. These days are subject to change, and are to be used as a guideline. So if you place an order on Wednesday, chances are that it will only go out 9 days later. Custom orders must be finalized by 6pm Monday (CST) in order to make the Friday shipment.
**If you need your order by a certain date, it's always a good idea to contact us first to see if we can make it happen. :)
U.S. Free shipping: We now offer free shipping to the U.S. on orders over $35USD. This does not include add-ons, such the as Priority shipping add-on.

U.S. orders ship once a week (see above) with USPS First Class.
If you would like to ship Priority, please purchase the Priority Add-on in addition to your order. It can be found here:

Please do note that Priority shipping does not come with a time guarantee, but it is generally faster than First Class.

Because we use a third party site to print our USPS labels, it may take a day or 2 for your package to actually get to the USPS office. If you enter your tracking number and it doesn't work, this is why.

Canadian and International Orders:
We ship with Canada Post on Wednesdays.
Canadian orders will include tracking, international does not.

Please contact us BEFORE ordering if you would like your order insured or if you'd like to get it faster.

>>Please ensure that your address is correct! We cannot contact everyone to verify that they've entered the correct address, so please check it.

>>Duty, customs, and brokerage fees are the responsibility of the buyer.
If you are in the U.S. and you have not received your order after 28 business days, please do contact us. If you are anywhere else in the world, it's approx. 36 business days.

>>We will happily refund shipping over-charges of more than $2.50 USD.

>>EU SHIPPING please note: The shipping price listed is International Air (so not the cheapest option). It is ESTIMATED to take 6-10 days, but again, can take longer.

>> Keep in mind that wood does have knots and bumps, which add to the charm and rustic look of our blocks. Also, because the block you receive will not be the one pictured, there will be variations in the amount of distressing and in the wood grain.

>> Colours may look different on a screen than in real life. We have done our best to photograph items in natural lighting so that the colour is as real as it can be.

>> By purchasing an item from our shop, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to shop policies.

>> All of our items were created in a smoke-free, cat-friendly environment.

Custom and personalised orders

We love to work with you to create a customized item, just for you!
At this time, we are only accepting custom orders with text on them, no graphics or photos.
Occasionally we do receive questions regarding colours.
The technique we use is an ink transfer, and at this time we only use black ink.
So the colour options for our blocks are:
>>Distressed Black (with the brown stain showing through the "hollow" letters. The amount of distressing varies.)
>>Medium Brown stain (with black letters)
>>Aged White (with black letters). This is not really white-white, as it has been painted white, sanded, then stained a medium brown.
>>Stone Grey stain (with black letters). This is a super light stain, more like a grey wash.

Sizing details

We do try to include a "perspective photo" in each of our listings (in addition to listing measurements in the description), so that you have an idea of the size of the blocks. The Small size is about the size of the palm of a woman's hand, so it's great for on a desk.

Gift wrapping and packaging

If your order is a gift, please do let us know, and we will 'pretty it up' a little. :)
If you would like to include a note, just put exactly what you would like to say in the "Note to seller" and we will print it onto a notecard and send it along.

Why is my USPS tracking number not working?

We print our USPS shipping labels via a third party website, but as soon as they are printed, Etsy receives the message that the order has been filled, and the customer receives a message that the order has shipped, with a tracking number.
BUT.... we print them 1-2 days before they actually arrive at the USPS office to be entered into the system, so please try again, if it hasn't been 2 days. Thanks!!
