About

Creating on a continuum

Since first discovering the function of an opposable thumb, I have been making things, drawing things, growing things and designing things. Though raised in suburbia, I always knew I belonged in the country, and that's where I fled right after college. Sharing an old dairy farm with my artist husband, horses, dogs, gardens and kids, I've found my bliss.

I really can't say that I've ever had a plan. I tend to float in the current and make things with whatever is available at my fingertips, inspired by whatever crosses my field of vision. When I see something beautiful, I simply erupt with the need to describe it in some way. Living in the lush farmland of western New York (as you can see in the pictures above), I'm never at a loss. If only there were more hours in a day.

Painting and drawing have always been my primary modes of expression. However, I've recently meandered down a curious path. Frustrated by my inability to find affordable jewelry that appeals to my aesthetic, I took matters into my own (busy) hands. I like simple pieces that are consistent with the natural forms, textures and colors that inspire my paintings. With a gift of pliers, I started re-purposing some old broken pieces that were languishing in my drawer. But, true to form, I didn't stop there. The question quickly arose: How much adornment does one need while cleaning stalls, pulling weeds and canning tomatoes? The solution was simple: Etsy. I now have an opportunity to share the pieces that I (obsessively) make as I continue to learn and evolve.

You'll find that my shop is sort of an odd juxtaposition of paintings and jewelry. Both art forms coexist in my life, and somehow, they feed off each other. So, at least for now, they cohabit my shop.

I grew up surrounded by creative people, married another and our offspring have followed suit. There was never a conscious decision to make things. It's just who we are. We all need to busy ourselves with our hands.
