This "Me" pillow is amazing. I wanted my daughter to have something that looked like her as she sometimes struggles with being different. Her friends now envy this doll and it gives her confidence. The quality and craftsmanship's is wonderful. You can see in the attention to detail the love that went into making this especially for my daughter. She sleeps with it every night. I thank you so much for your time and skill. I look forward to seeing what else you have in store!

About

Do Fabrics Dance?

Hi, I’m Phyllis Smith, and my Etsy shop is Dancing Fabrics. Now, you may be wondering – Do Fabrics Really Dance? Yes, they do! It’s here, on a bend in the St. Croix river town of historic Stillwater, MN, USA, where I design and handcraft soft toys and soft comfort items for children that come to life through imagination. That’s because I’m a fiber artist, and it’s here that fabric dances to the choreography of my skilled sewer’s hands.

What can I say! I’m just a big kid. I’m just a big kid at heart who loves children. I don’t just love ‘em, I actually love to PLAY with them! I’m the type of adult who throws down to the ground and gets all mussed up with kids.

And I’m looking for YOUR children, to see if they can come over to play. Well, since that’s not really possible, because I’m here and you’re out there EVERYWHERE, I’ve gone ahead and designed a line of soft toys to take my place and play with your kids.

It occurred to me one day that fabric truly does bend, twist, leap and turn to my will and moves to the beat of my intended outcome into something for kids that is squeezy soft, cutely watchful, quietly listening, a keeper of secrets, a true, true companion.

Let me show you around where it all takes place.

Here on an ordinary laptop, because I can draw, the ideas that crowd my imagination become the designs that will be printed on fabric. Never until recently did I ever dream that I could design my own fabric digitally. The digital file is then sent out to a professional fabric printing company. Now that on-demand fabric printing resources are available for small businesses like mine, there is no holding back for this crafter.

Once the fabric is mailed back to me, I cut and sew these little wonders for the children of the world, as many as I can reach, all stuffed, stitched and stretched into being with LOVE. I need a few sewing machines around to make that happen. Yep, these toys are my little messages of love going out to here and there and everywhere. Looks to me like they’re eager to get out there! (sigh)

This is the life. Since I’m the type of person who can’t NOT always be making things, this is the ultimate lifestyle – all play and no work!

Oh! And did I mention – I happen to be a champion hand- and machine knitter, as well! I’ve written some pretty interesting personal best patterns for you to look over and dream about crafting for yourself. Oh look – see how most of them trend towards children?

You can find all these little buddies and loveys right here on Etsy in my Dancing Fabrics shop. Here where all I have to do is allow the kid at heart to take over, engage the imagination, and dance with the fabric.

Yes – it’s all for you and your children. Make a point of meeting me here when you can.

Sound like a play date?

Great! We’ll see you then!
