Bespoke Beginings of Myself

I grew up with my grandparents who taught me self-sustaining living- like during the depression era and the wars. We unraveled old jumpers to knit into new ones, grew all our own foods and stored them.

It wasn't until my grandmother died that I was draw to return to textiles- and started by hand beading Gothic style gowns

I went and studied Textiles for 5 years from TAFE to RMIT in Melbourne-

I have worked in many different jobs in textiles- children's wear accessories, costuming for Shakespeare and theater for 4 years. Worked selling fabrics at a huge store in Sydney while doing acting for TV and film. Also as a Theater restaurant waiter in my own costumes.

I grew tired of all the same looks, hooded sweat tops, baggy jeans, too many facial piercings, tattoo's flashing, bad attitudes, then one day picked up my TV dust cover and made it into a purple satin brocade Victorian era men's vest to fit myself- I have only ever liked making clothes that are Bespoke, couture or tailored to the wearer- I don't see any other option.

This one vest started a transformation, I dropped old attitudes, and started sewing again after a 9 year halt from 1998 to around 2007.

I lifted my game, and saw that i made a good product, I was a good person, and didn't have to accept other perceptions of my Awarding winning talent (i do omit some things as I don't like to seem "braggy"). I thought to bring a RESERGENCY of the good old things that last the centuries into my work- making sure the customer to the fabric weavers etc are all happy- I don't like the idea of this new way people wear and buy clothes as most are made in slavery in overseas sweatshops. Time for the elegant beliefs of by-gone eras to return- and for men to stop acting and dressing like boy's and be gentlemen, it's not just the outside- its the inside that matters in this.

When I wear my own work, i feel, GREAT, and look just as much! I personally think every person deserves to have a whole and happy existence, and to have at least one set of beautiful clothes that they feel and look their very best. I believe good clothes will always look great even if worn in 200 years time. No need for fashion trends that throw away clothes as passing fad's or trends, I like to stick to what works well and true.
