Ukrainian Eggs are an ancient art form still practiced today. They are also known as "pysanky" (plural) or "pysanka" (singular). This word comes from a Ukrainian word meaning "to write". The eggs in my shop are a mix of traditional and contemporary pysanky, and batik art eggs, which may or may not have some of the same elements used in pysanky. All of my eggs are made in the traditional way of using beeswax and dye in a wax-resistant process similar to batik and are all made using blown eggs, meaning that the insides of the egg have been removed. The whole process takes many hours to complete, the total time depending on the intricacy of the design and how many colors are used. The symbols and colors decorating the eggs can often have special meanings.
If you would like more info on Pysanky, such as the meanings of symbols and colors, or to see more pictures of eggs please visit my website at www.dandylioneggs.com.

5 out of 5 starsFabulous egg! It’s the first time I have seen this type of artwork, it is very smooth, I had expected some texture. I’m hoping to learn this for myself and would again from this seller.
Sarah responded on Jan 11, 2023
Thank you Julie! I'm glad you've discovered pysanky! Some pysanky do have texture, when a technique called acid etching is used. The longer the egg is soaked in an acid, like vinegar, the more defined the texture will be because it dissolves the outside layer of the eggshell. I didn't do any acid etching on this egg, so it's smooth.
About DandylionEggs

First, beeswax is written on the white egg using a tool called a kistka. Then the egg will be placed in the yellow dye.
-
After the egg is dyed yellow, I write with the beeswax on all the areas that I want to keep yellow. Next, green dye.
-
Now I write with beeswax on all areas to remain green. I repeat these steps for orange and pink.
-
Now the egg has been dyed the final color, purple. No more wax goes on the egg. Instead, it's time to remove the wax!
-
The wax has been removed, and all the colors are revealed. The last step is to coat the egg with varnish, and display!

Frequently asked questions
What is the Germany Packaging Act and how can we be be in compliance with it?
In 2019 Germany’s Packaging Act VerpackG came into effect, imposing requirements on online retailers selling to buyers in Germany. The Packaging Act promotes recycling and reuse of packaging materials (e.g. cardboard boxes, tape, and bubble wrap).
Dandylion Eggs is registered at the Packaging Register of the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (Foundation Central Agency Packaging Register – ZSVR) with registration number DE5234287761942. My Dual System Licensing partner for the collection, sorting & recycling of the packaging is ACTIVATE by RECLAY.
As a consumer, please ensure that all received packaging is disposed of in the correct recycling containers.
Will I get the egg in the photos?
Yes, I take photos of each and every egg that I make, and the photos show the actual egg that you will be buying.
Gift wrapping and packaging
All of my eggs come in a gift box, that can also be used for storing your egg when it is not being displayed. If you order a pysanka that comes with an egg stand, the stand will also be gift wrapped.
Custom and personalized orders
If you would like a personalized egg, there are a few ways to do it. You can find one of my eggs that you like, and I can make you one with the same design, or I can modify it and personalize it to you with your ideas. Or we can start from scratch, with your ideas for theme and colors, size of egg, type of display, etc. It usually takes 1-2 weeks to finish a customized egg, depending on how quickly we can communicate back and forth.
