The artist who almost failed art but found her own potential.

When I was three years old, I drew a lion. It was an actual recognizable lion rather than the things most 3 year olds could draw then. My mom knew I had potential after that. She kept it even up to this day and since then I've been drawing.
In high school I took four years of art. I almost failed, because they told me what to draw. They didn't give me a medium and tell me "hey draw whatever you like and use this technique," no. They told me, "draw this" or "draw that". This limited what I wanted to do. So I refused. I practiced the mediums on my own, I taught myself how to shade and how to create things my mind wanted me to.
With help from family and friends I've been able to accomplish pieces I never thought I could. The elephant on my store was the first time I ever shaded, and the first time I ever drew a realistic animal. The Indian headdress was one of the first pieces of my concentration in AP art.
I've always thought that I would need classes to teach me how to improve my techniques, but all I needed was my artistic friends and family.
Then, at 20 I started DanielleSkillingsArt and ran with it. I had maybe 5 prints of originals I created in high school, with random drawings I had on my iPad. Now I'm 24 years old, about to graduate college with a Bachelor's of Arts in English Writing and Psychology and I decided to launch a store just because.
Dani Darko Crafts came to life in June 2020 and it's been going up ever since. Complete with an entire site dedicated to my portfolio, a TeeSpring, and now an Etsy. My goal is to take this on full-time after graduation so I can keep putting more and more art into the world. Art is what makes me happy and when I'm not arting, I don't feel like I'm functioning at my full potential. It's therapeutic and helps me cope with my anxiety along with many other creative things.
Since I'm currently going to school full time, updating the shop is limited to maybe two decent sized launches a month, but thanks to my husband I'm capable of working on the store full time along with my schooling and I greatly appreciate him for that. He knows what I want and need in life and he's willing to help me in any way, I couldn't imagine life without him.
