Darcy Hunter of Darcy Doodle Quilts - Original Art Quilts and Fiber Art

Darcy Hunter, a fiber artist, began quilting approximately 15 years ago because she wanted to make quilts for her babies. As her children grew, she began to devote more time to her passion and discovered her love of creating art through a fabric medium. Darcy and her husband had a studio built in their basement so she could have more room to pursue her art. She began Darcy Doodle Quilts in 2014 online on Etsy and Facebook. She also opened a shop at the Riverside Resort in Mactaquac, New Brunswick and shares the space with other artists. In winter 2017, she was featured in two magazines by Stampington & Company for her quilted postcards (Art Quilting Studio and Sew Somerset).

Darcy is also a part-time elementary teacher. She loves teaching, and has expanded that love into her business. In addition to creating art, she also designs art quilt patterns of some of her creations. She teaches classes sharing her passion of the quilting arts.

Darcy continues to learn new techniques and expand her creative process so that she can continue to grow as an artist.

Artist’s Statement
I have always been a maker, inspired to create things with my hands that have meaning and love poured into them. I wake every morning with new ideas that I can’t wait to get out of my head and onto my pallette. Fiber art is a very versatile medium that allows me to use a wide range of hand dyed and commercial fabrics, yarns, wool roving, beads, and natural found objects...the list goes on and on! My work is greatly inspired by nature and are original designs.

I am inspired by the nature that surrounds me. I live in a beautiful, picturesque area in New Brunswick, Canada where I can walk through the forest or along the Saint John River right from my front door. There is an infinite number of ways to show the beauty of the Maritimes and I love depicting its scenery in my creations. I also have a great love of the ocean, and many of the art pieces I’ve created are inspired by the Bay of Fundy, which is only a short drive away.

I feel very fortunate to have found my life’s passion. I hope that you can connect with my art and find a piece that stirs your soul. I also take on commission work, so if you have a vision for a piece of art that you would like me to create, please let me know!

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalised orders

I love the challenge of a commission. Please message me if you are thinking about something custom for you or for someone in your life that you want to give that special something to.

I respond to messages within a day, and so we can figure out exactly what you would like, and then I will create a custom listing for the deposit (approximately 50%), and then another when the order is finished and I am ready to ship your special item to you, along with the shipping charges.

Don't hesitate to ask! I will do my best to accomodate all requests.

Care instructions

All of my items are made with different fibers (with the exception of patterns). Therefore, they can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. They can also be ironed with steam on the highest setting, unless there are other fibers attached besides cotton. (with the journals, remove the inner book first).

As for the art quilts, once you receive the piece, carefully lay it flat. Iron the piece being careful to avoid the 3D fibers (if included on your piece of art). I periodically use liquid spray starch (I use Mary Ellen’s Best Press which you can get at most fabric shops) and iron both sides so the wall hanging will lay flat. Spot clean with a damp cloth.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about care. Thanks!

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my items are packaged in a clear, high quality ziploc bag before shipping. I provide FREE GIFT WRAPPING with every order. Also, if you are sending the item to a different address as a gift, I would be glad to add a personalized note for you!
