For me, the process of art making is typically meditative, renewing, and spiritual. That said, I also crave times of creating spontaneously in the spirit of play and fun! I’ll explain…

My “Imagined” collection, represents a desire to connect with and explore that which is unseen. These paintings begin by releasing paint (typically acrylic) onto a surface in order to create presence and mood. Over time, with mindful observation and imagination, the arrangement of color and movement intuitively inspires imagery. Finally, paint is applied in thin layers, with varying translucencies, to develop the painting into its perceived potential. Spirituality, womanhood, and connection are reoccurring themes explored through this variety of vibrant, abstract compositions.

On another note, the “LeViv” collection is all about spontaneity, fun, and celebrating the natural world. I share this work in hope of inspiring lighthearted joy, appreciation, and enthusiasm for the abundant beauty of the amazing world we live in. These pieces typically begin by having my young children help me create a loose, brush stroke and texture filled underpainting. This process adds an exciting dose of energy and playfulness to the work. These paintings often utilize varied contour lines, energizing color, and a variety of textures in the abstracted plants, animals, and landscapes that are portrayed. While inspired by observation and experiences, the subject matter is ultimately reimagined to share a positive feeling.

And finally, drawing loose, continuous line drawings from observation is among one of my favorite pastimes. This can be seen as I take a lighthearted approach to creating portraits in my “Faces” Collection, or in the fluid movement of the art in my “Line Play” body of work. Both collections are motivated by a desire to connect with the moment, perhaps an individual, and my surroundings. These drawings and paintings are typically created after observing a subject or scene from the natural world, and then intuitively elaborating on and departing from that reality. A strong appreciation for line, movement, and color can be seen in nearly all these creations.
