Sylvain discovered gyotaku 3 years ago during an exhibition.
Graphic designer by training, sensitive to the marine environment and attracted by Japanese culture, he naturally moved towards this art.
In 2021 he received 2 prizes (1st jury prize and 1st technical prize) during an exhibition in Indre-et-Loire rewarding his work and perseverance.
From the Loire, he got closer to a fisherman / restaurateur of the Loire practicing a sustainable fishing who "lends" him his most beautiful catches, the time to make the imprint. The fish is then returned and worked in the restaurant's kitchens, creating a virtuous circle.

His prints are mainly made in Indian ink.

Attached to the respect of good traditional techniques, passionate about this art with a simple principle, demanding technique and complete involvement, he decided to make more and more his Gyotakus with cuttlefish ink, more delicate to use but bringing to his meaning, even more authenticity and truth.

Continuously in a process of progression, his imprints in direct colors come later, thanks to the teachings of Master Marc Porrini.

Graphiste de formation, sensible au milieu marin et attiré par la culture japonaise, il s’est naturellement dirigé vers cet art.
En 2021 il a reçu 2 prix (1er prix du jury et 1er prix technique) lors d’une exposition en Indre-et-Loire récompensant son travail et sa persévérance.
Ligérien, il s’est rapproché d’un pêcheur/restaurateur de Loire pratiquant une pêche durable qui lui « prête » ses plus belles prises, le temps de réaliser l’empreinte. Le poisson est ensuite rendu et travaillé dans les cuisines du restaurant, créant ainsi un cercle vertueux.

Ses empreintes sont principalement réalisées à l’encre de Chine.

Attaché au respect des bonnes techniques traditionnelles, passionné par cet art au principe simple, à la technique exigeante et à l’implication complète, il décide de réaliser de plus en plus ses Gyotakus avec de l’encre de seiche, plus délicate à utiliser mais apportant à son sens, encore plus d’authenticité et de vérité.

Continuellement dans une démarche de progression, ses empreintes en couleurs directes viennent par la suite, grâce aux enseignements de Maître Marc Porrini.
