This koala is so adorable and soft! The shop kindly agreed to do a bit of a customization for me and I absolutely love the finished product. Perfect!

Growing Roses Amidst Thorns

In 2002, a mother and daughter team came up with the idea to take their two passions and turn them into something awesome. Jocelyn was a young college student with insane crochet and knitting skills and Jennifer was a fantasy author who adored the strange and different. Combining a love of unique fibers with the passion of whimsy; Desert Rose Designs was created. Named for the youngest daughter of Jennifer Gerrells and the oldest daughter of Jocelyn Davis...a new world of creativity began.

After a few years of fun and exciting teamwork, Jocelyn was dealt a blow. Her husband was diagnosed with kidney failure and was unable to work. Needing to provide for her family of 5, Jocelyn took the reins while Jennifer continued to be a creative designer-giving ideas and inspiration to her eldest daughter. It seemed like the perfect match-Jennifer could continue writing and providing feedback while Jocelyn could care for her husband's health needs and support her family.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Jennifer was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Jocelyn knew that the uniqueness of the company had to continue in honor of her mother. She searched for fibers and combinations that spoke to the inner part of the imagination. The fantasy realm Jennifer so loved.

Desert Rose Designs took a slight turn as their mission shifted to include extensive service contributions. Every year, over 200 hats are donated to the infusion centers of Colorado as well as dozens of hats, blankets, and toys given away to Children's Hospital, Marion House Charity, and other organizations worldwide. Jennifer was so very sad when her vibrant red hair began to fall out during treatment so Jocelyn just loves to use the softest yarn she can find to help reduce the pain of chemo hair loss.

Each Desert Rose Designs item is one of a kind or unique. Nothing is mass produced. All yarn is purchased new for the project created and anything leftover after is turned into a charity item. You can rest assured that nothing is wasted in a world that needs love.

We continue to appreciate your support and business. Without our loyal customers throughout the years, years we wouldn't be able to donate as much as we do while still supporting our families. We are truly trying to grow roses within the thorns of life. ❤
