About

Bead designs for delightful difference in what we see, wear, know & can be

Like us, beads come in all colours shapes and sizes. When beads are combined with traditional and contemporary beading stitches from diverse cultures the infinite diversity of possibilities they offer for creating beautiful and unique handcrafted, one-of-a-kind objects in our world has captivated me.

I am captivated by creating beadwork that wows with difference, plays with pattern, calls with colour, sings a story or sparkles with bling. I am captivated by the lines of flight that playing with beads allows me and by the deep connections to beaders past and present, near and far that it offers. My patterns and tutorials are my way of keeping those connections alive and growing new ones.

I strive to make my patterns and tutorials detailed and user-friendly so that others can quickly and easily delight in creating beading beadwork that captivates them and others.

A few words about the name Dax :
" Dax was a much loved dog who died just as I was rethinking what I wanted to do in my life and I chose to give the creative world of beading more prominence in it. His name is borrowed from a fictional character in Star Trek who lives by merging with its host. When merged it has access to the memories of previous hosts as well as their accumulated skills and work experience. Merged in my bead and pattern designs are not only my accumulated skills and experience as a teacher, writer, designer and social activist but the skills and experience of the beaders of the world who in their generosity have taught others, who have taught me."
