A Paper-Confetti-Filled-Life
Growing up in grammar school art class, I idolized watercolor artists and the way they could manipulate water and paper to create such diverse colors and textures.
Specifically, the intricate way a watercolor artist could divide the lines between the white paper and the color white in the image and the rest of the composition exhibiting such supreme control over an often untamable medium…
No matter how hard I tried, the water always won and I felt powerless…
In frustration my high school art teacher flung a stack of colored card stock and said, “Make your own medium!”
After trying several techniques, the first time I held a hole puncher and heard the “clack, click, clacking” of the small machine and felt the rhythmic clenching in my hand and caught sight of the textures and colors that those tiny paper dots could create, I knew I had found my art home…
I would create art with my own HANDMADE PAPER CONFETTI!
Life as it sometimes does, took me away from my art having been convinced that “artists don’t make any money until they’re dead!”
A couple of years ago cleaning out my office, I came across the familiar feel of the hole puncher in my hand and I’ve been “clack, click, clacking” ever since (much to my husband and dog’s dismay)!
That same feeling of comfort and joy came rushing back when I discovered the hammer and special tools that I use to create the DDOTS® Shadow Art.
I’m magically transported back to living in my mother’s home being followed by her and the vacuum every time I began a new piece; but now it’s our daughter that I have to keep away because the dots may be my art medium, but to a little girl, it’s an endless party in our
