Who is Alice & The Dear Alice Company Story
In memory of my late grandmother Alice Marie Roberts, Dear Alice Co. was established in 2017.
Alice was born on March 18th, 1936 in Shady Point, Oklahoma.
She was a women with eyes that comforted my fears and warmed my heart every time she held me. She was quiet amongst many, but she spoke through her cooking, sewing and stories she used to tell me. She and I shared many a good laughs.
My grandmother had style. She also further enforced the importance of what my mom taught me about how to carry myself as a lady. While gardening with her, I would listen to her stories and her time in the country in Oklahoma and navigating her 25 year career as a nurse in the Kansas City area.
In 2004, our family noticed that she was napping and falling asleep more randomly. For years, she battled with diabetes. My Grandmother, Alice had been to the doctor and it was determined that there was a blockage in her heart. In January 2005, Alice had heart surgery to insert a stint into her heart for the blockage. Unfortunately, she never recovered from the surgery and passed on July 5, 2005.
Our Story
I was introduced to vintage at a very early age staying with Grandma Alice on weekends, school breaks and summers. I was responsible for dusting coffee tables in my grandmother’s front room, an old vintage floor TV set that held all the framed family photos on top and even cleaning windows. Most of what I loved about the ornate items at grandma's house was the detail, the classic look and design of grandma's Pyrex dish set and the history as I looked and admired grandma's outfits from back in the day still store in an old coat closet.
She always gave me a little change or something for cleaning and I didn’t mind cleaning her beautiful vases, the glass of her beautiful china cabinet in her front room filled with all sorts of ornate things. She also had a basement full of things for me to rummage through from yesteryear. I always loved hearing about the history of an item or where she had got it from and how long she had, had it or which one of her children it had belonged to. I guess that was the beginning of my love for vintage stuff.
In 2017, I decided to share my love of vintage items, along with my passion for creating. I started with handmade journals made from CD covers I had and handmade bracelets. Then I thought, I love shopping for vintage stuff why not share that passion too!
I noticed in stores while shopping for items to decorate my own home, that it was hard to find unique items that looked different, that had some character to them. I love when a piece looks "loved". It has more warmth! The more history the better!
Not only do I strive to provide unique vintage home decor, kitchenware and knick-nacks, I give extensive detail about the items you are purchasing so you know what you're getting. I love giving once abandoned classic pieces, a happy new home!
I hope that you’ll find something that makes you smile and brings back good memories, I love nostalgic moments around here if you can’t tell already! Maybe jewelry is more your thing, or writing (Check back Spring/Summer 2019 for my jewelry and notebook line).
Whichever it is or maybe it’s both my hope is that you love what you find and that you’ve found that special unique item here at Dear Alice Co.
