Spinning, Weaving, Creating

DebbiRYarn started many, many years ago. Of course, as a child I had no idea that I would own a shop, especially an internet shop! All my life, I've wanted to create cloth. I began as many children do, with a potholder loom. I still have one old, ragged potholder from those days. Potholder looms and a knitting Nancy that looked like a spinning wheel just weren't enough. Twenty-five years ago, while pregnant with my first child, I acquired my first multi-harness loom, a used, 4-harness 36" wide Schacht Standard. Four more looms have joined the stable, but the Schacht is still my workhorse loom.

Today, my husband and I travel throughout the state, giving spinning and weaving demonstrations to show people how cloth was created before the Industrial Revolution. George built a loom especially for these demonstrations. Some of the items featured in the shop were woven on that loom. I also teach spinning and weaving and am constantly working to learn more about this ancient craft. Items in the shop are the results of my research, some the results of my own designs.

An exciting addition to the shop are tools made by my husband. Although George isn't planning to offer finished looms here, he has recently begun turning beautiful spindles. They are functional spindles, well balanced and capable of holding a large cop of spun yarn, yet are the epitome of beautiful simplicity.

George and I hope you enjoy the items you find here and that one or more may inspire you to make your own journey of creation!

As a child, I had been fascinated with the process of creating cloth. It took years to find the tools and lessons, but I've been following that dream my whole life. Here, I offer the results to you!

Hello and welcome to my shop! I am primarily a handweaver and that's most of what you'll see for sale here. I also spin and make polymer clay icons, so you may sometimes see those items here as well. And exciting addition are the drop spindles made by my husband, George!
