About

An ultimate need to knit

It is a long story :) quite personal :)
Knitting was very near all the time in 1980s in Poland not much you could have found in shops many women were sewing or knitting, so was my mom, my aunt, my grand grand mother, so a basket with yarn and knitting pins was something natural for me as a child, I also wanted to learn how knit. I learnt a bit, I liked crocheting really a lot.
But the new charter for me as a knitter started much later. I was studying Industrial Design in my hometown - Kraków. And as part of exchange program I went to Denmark, to great design school in a little town - Kolding. I liked that school so much that after graduation I went there again and then I joined a course on knitting on old hand operated knitting machines, and I have totally fallen in love with these old machines, made to last and work. I could have spent long hours glued to one machine trying out new stitch ideas. At that time I was more concentrated on single effects, stitches and samples than on finished projects.
I went back to Poland, realised knitting machines from same period made in Poland are much poorer than German ones I had in Denmark, just like Mercedes or BMW compared to Polish cars. But I was stubborn, I managed to find machine just like the one I used in Kolding, with great help of my dad and his friend it was transported it from Germany to Poland and I was able to knit what I want on the machine I want :) it was back in 2008 the machine still works perfectly and I gave her a name - Helga.
