Here you will find elegant jewelry created from bits of history, sparkling gems, glowing pearls, vintage finds, dreams and stories. These are one of a kind works of art that you can wear for a lifetime. Welcome to Demeter Arts.

The Demeter line of art jewelry includes unique necklaces, earrings and bracelets into which I’ve incorporated elements such as vintage brass and copper, handcut crystals from the 1930’s, turn of the century mourning wear, antique escutcheons, handworn religious medals, and buttons so old and rare they have names...

I imagine the women who wore these pieces when they were new, the women who handled the antique keys I’ve found when what the keys opened was their secret. They were women who travelled the world, or dreamed of it. My jewelry is made for the gypsies of the world- wandering or wishing...

The Plein Air Collection is designed for fun along with everyday elegance. These sleek modern pieces are made of anything that inspires me, from gold vermeil and gemstones to funky lucite finds. All of the Plein Air pieces are original designs, and are often available in multiples. Designed for life, not a lifetime, Plein Air pieces are still handmade with the same attention to style and quality you have come to expect from Demeter Arts.

So, please, pour a glass of wine or brew a cup of tea and browse my current collections.
As you wander through, please notice the high quality of the components and my trademark- a lovely dangle that drops down from every necklace clasp. In a Demeter piece, you will look beautiful from every angle.

Payment

I accept Paypal only.

If you anticipate making more than 1-2 purchases on-line, I highly reccomend creating a Paypal account. If you do not have a Paypal account, you can easily (I promise!) set one up. This will allow you to make purchases on line without divulging any financial or credit information to a seller. And, although you can set up an account with a major credit card, you can set one up just as easily with a bank account and make instant transfers, or write “echecks” for your purchases.

If you would rather not create an account, you can still pay through Paypal using your credit card.

For help with buying an item through PayPal, please connect with Paypal help: http://www.etsy.com/help_guide_checkout.php

I will look for payment to be made upon checkout. However, in keeping with etsy policy, I do allow for a three day grace period- if you contact me. If you do not plan to pay at purchase, I would appreciate a convo (etsy-speak for Conversations- to open a convo, you can click on the "conversations" link in the upper right-hand corner of this page, and send me a note in the window that appears, you can also click on "contact me" in the right margin, or click on "contact seller about this item" at the very bottom of any item listing). It's an easy way to let me know when to expect payment. If payment is not made within three days, without contact, the items will be relisted.

Please note that delayed payment may result in delayed shipping.

I offer all my jewelry as separates, but I usually design one or two pairs of earrings to complement each necklace. If you choose a necklace or a bracelet and order a pair of earrings to go with them, I offer a 5% discount on the total price of the two items before shipping and handling.

NEED IT FAST?
If time is of the essence (need to receive your items in time to make a special gift?) I can ship by expedited or express mail. Simply convo me (drop me a note under "conversations", above right) about your needs, and I will make the appropriate arrangements.

It is my pleasure to mail every item well-protected and packaged beautifully, so I am confident you will receive your new treasure in perfect condition (in the event of an unforseen disaster, see above re:insurance). I package all items as gifts; after all, if it’s not a gift you’re giving to someone else, then it is a gift you are giving yourself. Enclosed with every piece will be a signed card detailing the provenance of the piece.

If you would like a gift mailed directly to the recipient, and wish to have it gift wrapped and accompanied by an elegant gift card, please choose the item “gift wrap and card” from my shop and convo me (that's that "conversation" thing again- upper right corner of this page) with the message you would like to include for the special recipient.

I do use recycled material in very good condition for padding when packaging for shipping. If you would prefer that I use new materials, please let me know.

Additional policies and FAQs

Many of my necklaces are designed to hang at a long, elegant length, to suit their vintage inspired design. If a shorter length would suit you better, please let me know the exact length you would like the necklace to be (by clicking on "conversations" at the top right of this page, or "contact seller" in the right margin, or at the bottom of every individual listing).
Please specify if you are describing the CHAIN length or the PIECE length (i.e. the length of a piece from clasp to tip of the longest part of the pendant).

If you have sensitive ears, please contact me when you purchase earrings. I would be happy to replace the earwires I have chosen with surgical steel earwires, in either the kidney or french hook style. If your ears prefer gold, I can make that change just as easily. Please contact me regarding the extra cost for gold findings.

My bracelets are a common length, and allow for some adjustment at the clasp, but if you have a petite wrist, or are blessed with more muscle than I, please don't hesitate in letting me know. I am happy to make these custom changes, whenever possible, at no cost to you. That's one of the perks of "handmade by the artist".

Please note that I love to do commissioned pieces. If you wish to request a design for a special occasion, or a special person (you, perhaps?), please convo me, or click on “special request” at the right hand strip of my shopfront page. I will design a piece for you alone, and create a special listing for you. You will be billed $20.00 as a deposit on the design. This is non-refundable, but should you decide you do not wish to purchase the custom piece, after seeing photos of the finished piece, you may apply your deposit to any item in my shop. Regrettably, I cannot refund the deposit.

Please don’t be shy about making your wishes known- I can work within a budget, alter an existing piece upon your feedback; I am generally easy and open about collaboration. Perhaps we can incorporate something from your grandmother’s childhood years, or work around a favorite theme. Someone has a favorite opera? Let’s recreate it for them. A special dress? Let's create the perfect complement. The possibilities, as they say, are endless...
