I think mugs are very personal.
I feel that each person that has one of my mugs actually gets the mug that is meant for them. They open the cupboard, early in the morning, and it's there waiting to be filled.
A LITTLE HISTORY:
I have been a "potter" all my adult life. A little strange since I have a B.F.A. in painting from Bowling Green State University and an M.F.A. in Fine Art Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design. I guess I just like getting my hands dirty!
My career in pottery has always been making Southwest pottery and fired in the raku process, which I still create for my galleries and gift shops around the country.
When the idea of opening an ETSY shop came to me, I had to decide what to showcase. I have always collected mugs by other potters. I like the way they feel. (And, they were affordable) So I thought I would start with mugs. I didn't want to "throw" them on the potters wheel and glaze them by dipping in glaze buckets. I wanted to make them a little more involved. I began by rolling out slabs of clay, impressing them with designs and hand building each one. After they are bisque fired, the hand painted glazes are carefully applied. This process takes quite a bit of time but I am happy with the results. They have a unique look. They are fired one more time to over 2200 degrees and ready to go.
