5 out of 5 starsWorks really well for my indoor silkie roo. Made his shrill crow much more mellow and brought the volume down to a reasonable level.

About DesertRoseFarm
Holistic, sustainable farming- from beginning to end!
I am aspiring to offer a vast new array of Earth-grown goodness in an effort to nourish commerce on the farm. Medicinal and edible provisions, organic plants and seeds, woodcraft and handiwork, and all things pet and livestock are on the horizon!
Of course, bones and skulls are the back bone of Desert Rose; my humble beginnings started out in the world of taxidermy. I have been professionally cleaning bones and skulls for folks around the world since 2008. You can anticipate a new crop of bones trickling in now and again.
I only offer bones that have no monetary exchange attached to them (that means I don't buy anything from trappers or hunters), so nature-cleaned wild-foraged bones from the farm and the wild will be a new staple around here :) I consider this work a unique form of recycling, by breathing beauty and functionality back into 'waste' and creating an opportunity for folks to utilize, study, and honor these natural pieces. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Stay tuned, and stay wild! And as always, contact me if you have any questions! I may be super busy, but I will always try to follow up and make sure everything turns out right!

IMPORTANT TEMPORARY POLICY FOR SUMMER 2022:
Any/all orders for physical items shipping to Norway will be cancelled and refunded. I apologize for any inconvenience! Shipments to the rest of the EU, and worldwide, will ship as normal from Norway.
ALSO in SUMMER 2022: There will be no returns or exchanges on physical items.
CONTACTING ME: Please contact me through Etsy if your inquiry is pertinent to an Etsy transaction or listing. Be sure to provide invoice or listing numbers with your message. I ask that you be patient while waiting for a reply, as I am often extremely busy and away from electronics most of the day :)
LEGALITIES: When it comes to laws and legalities, wildlife trade is serious business! Please check and make sure all of your wildlife purchases are in accordance with your local laws! It is assumed that when you order an item you can legally possess that item according to the laws of your state or country. If you order items you cannot legally possess, Desert Rose will hold you (the buyer) responsible for any penalties and/or legal fees incurred by the company as a result of your illegal purchase/import. <--- hasn't happened yet, and I hope it never does :)
CANCELLATION: I'm happy to cancel and refund any purchase at any point before it's shipped out. It never fails that I get a new order in while I'm packing and shipping, so sometimes those orders go out IMMEDIATELY. That is why I suggest you contact me ASAP if you need a cancellation! Remember, I have a 3 business day shipping estimate. I try to get orders out promptly but we are remote and sometimes it takes a few days before we can get back to the post office!

Frequently asked questions
Do you ship internationally?
Here’s the scoop:
Wildlife has international trade regulations. The fees, permits, and lengthy processes have made it impractical for me to continue offering international wildlife shipment.
The good news:
Items from domesticated species have no USA export regulations. I can ship domesticated species worldwide with no additional export fees.
Remember:
Always check your local customs and regulations before importing any animal specimens! Just because I'm allowed to export something doesn't mean you're allowed to import it!
What if I want to order something from your website as well?
If you'd like to combine items from Etsy and from our website, DesertRose.us, we're happy to help! Be sure to email me or send an Etsy conversation before or immediately after you place an order. I will combine your orders and shipping charges from both websites!
Will you combine multiple orders?
Yes! If you place multiple orders at the same time I will combine their shipment and refund you the shipping overages. You don't have to request this, I will do it when I see multiple orders.
If you'd like to place an order but have me wait to ship it, please communicate with me before or immediately after ordering so I know to wait! This can be useful if you'd like to snag an item now, but want to wait and see what else is coming in, for example :)
How do you calculate shipping charges?
We are now using Etsy's "calculated shipping feature". It's not a perfect tool, but it usually works out. This feature calculates the shipping charge based on the item's weight, combined with the item weights of everything in your order.
International customers will find that their shipping charges often exceed $10-$20 USD. Unfortunately international shipping has truly become that expensive for us in the USA. I have no cheaper shipping method available to me.
Yes, I do have to pad my shipping charges a little bit. Etsy now taxes sellers on the shipping fees we collect, so if we do not pad the shipping rate, we start paying out of pocket for shipping. I do not profit from shipping chargers.
Wholesale availability
Our stock is limited to what we (2 people with the help of 2 goats) can ethically forage and process ourselves. We cannot provide true "wholesale" pricing or quantities. Such a thing only exists in the buy-and-resell factory-production world.
We do offer bulk discounts on some goods though. We save time, Etsy fees, and supplies (labels, bags, etc) putting together much larger lots than a bunch of little tiny ones. For example; 1lb+ bulk resin orders are typically 25% off the normal per-ounce resin price.
If you're in need of a large quantity of something specific, please let us know and we will custom forage for you!
Where do your bones come from?
The vast majority of our wildlife items are "foraged" on our wilderness excursions. Bones seem to crop up everywhere we go!
As of 2018, none of the bones we acquire will have had any monetary exchange attached to them; from now on it will be wild foraged or fairly traded bones only!
(*I DO NOT buy/resell cleaned bones!)
I have a limited inventory of bones and skulls that were acquired in years bygone as "waste" from the hunting and trapping trades. Once these bones are cleaned and sold there will never again be more sourced in the same fashion.
I do not trap. I do hunt, but not for business. Wildlife is only ever taken for food or farm security. Precious few of my wildlife specimens will have come from personal hunting.
Can you explain more about your pricing?
We price our products based on our time and resources. We are not here to play the game of perceived value and market competition. Our Etsy prices are typically 8% + $0.50 higher than the prices on our website due to vendor fees & taxes. If it's an item promoted in off-site ads (which I can't opt out of) they take an additional 12% :(
$3 sale: $0.73 fee = 24.5% to Etsy
$6 sale: $0.96 fee = 16% to Etsy
$3.85 sale from off-site ads: $1.46 fee = 38% to Etsy
$10 sale from ads: $2.50 fee = 25% goes to Etsy
We factor these losses into our prices to make sure we get paid enough to cover paper, ink, packaging, tools, fancy remote internet, and other production and business costs, and still get paid for our time!
Why don't you offer free shipping like so many other shops?
Free shipping may be attractive at a glance, but on average, shoppers pay more in the end. To account for potential losses on combined shipment factors, sellers like me must raise prices 10-20% across the board to make certain we're not paying out of pocket for shipping. In the end, shoppers simply end up spending more than they would have if they paid the actual shipping costs.
***Etsy is encouraging sellers to do this as a way to make more money off you.***
