About

Holistic, sustainable farming- from beginning to end!

This year we are finally off-grid and all-natural, aspiring to offer a vast new array of Earth-grown goodness; medicinal and edible provisions, organic plants and seeds, woodcraft and handiwork, and all things pet and livestock are on the horizon!

Of course, bones and skulls are the back bone of the Desert Rose Taxidermy! Several new vermiculture cleaning methods are in works, and you can anticipate a new crop of bones around summer/fall 2018. Our new goal for all bone work is to offer only bones that have no monetary exchange attached to them, so nature-cleaned bones will be a new staple around here :)

I have been professionally cleaning bones and skulls for folks around the world for almost 10 years. I typically use a method of bone cleaning called 'maceration'. This utilizes a natural decomposition bacteria to gently clean bones. This method creates a flawless finished product and creates an organic, nutrient-rich by-product that I return to the soil. We hope to be mastering some new cleaning methods that rival the maceration process!
I do not bleach or boil any of my bones! My dried specimens are always dried using non-toxic, chemical-free methods.
I consider this work a unique form of recycling, by breathing beauty and functionality back into this 'waste' and creating an opportunity for folks to utilize, study, and honor these natural pieces. If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Stay tuned, and stay wild!

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
Due to the high annual permitting fees for my business, combined with the cumbersome, expensive, and paperwork-heavy process of exporting wildlife specimens, I am no longer offering international shipping on wildlife specimens.

EXCEPTIONS:
Domesticated species have NO regulation or inspection requirements and can be shipped directly to you without hassle. These species include horse, cow, pig, goat, domestic rabbit, domestic turkey, other domestic fowl, and many others. Please note that some countries may restrict the import of domesticated specimens, always check your local laws before ordering!
Additional policies and FAQs
REGARDING WOLF, BLACK BEAR, COUGAR, AND LYNX:
Etsy does not allow the sale of products or specimens derived from these species, HOWEVER it IS legal for my business to trade and export these species. These bans are NOT based on any federal laws or legal restrictions. You can check here for current inventory on these species:
http://www.desertrosetaxidermy.com

If you would like to place a custom order for one of these species, please message me on Etsy, or send an email to contact [!at] DesertRoseTaxidermy.com.
Some states/countries may restrict the import, purchase, or ownership of bear, wolf and cougar, so please check with your local Fish and Game and know your wildlife laws before placing an order.

OWL, HAWK, RAVEN, AND OTHER MIGRATORY BIRDS AND BIRDS OF PREY:
I get a lot of custom requests for items from birds of prey and other migratory species. Nearly all migratory birds are federally protected, and it is illegal to possess any part (bone, nest, or feather) of these animals. I cannot help you with your quest for these specimens!

Frequently asked questions
Do you ship internationally?

Here’s the scoop:
Wildlife has international trade regulations. The fees, permits, and lengthy processes have made it impractical for me to continue offering international wildlife shipment.

The good news:
Items from domesticated species have no USA export regulations. I can ship domesticated species worldwide with no additional export fees.

Remember:
Always check your local customs and regulations before importing any animal specimens!

Do you hunt or trap?

I do not trap. I do hunt, but not for business. Wildlife is only ever taken for food or farm security. Precious few of my wildlife specimens will have come from personal hunting. The vast majority of my wildlife items are salvaged “waste” from the hunting and trapping trades, where it is commonplace for most of the animal to be discarded. This unique form of “recycling” offers folks a chance to use and honor pieces that would otherwise have been thrown away! As of 2018, none of our bones will have had any monetary exchange attached to them; we clean foraged and salvaged bones only!
