PLEASE NOTE: I do not do commission work. I've received many inquiries about this, but try as I might, I have found that the creative energy just doesn't flow for me in that way.

RESERVED ITEMS: If you are an established customer with me, you may request that an item be placed on reserve for you. As a rule, this period is limited to two weeks, but I will take extenuating circumstances into account. You may purchase the item at any time before the reserve period is up.

My talismans are all about connection to the land...the spirit within the desert. I believe we need these connections in our increasingly artificial lives, a link to the timeless, deeper reality of stone, light, heat and earth. There is a beauty and a healing power in the severity of the desert...be still and listen.

These Desert Primitive talismans are the children of my soul: primal and elemental, they evoke a timeless Dreamtime world centered in the American Desert Southwest. They feature unusual stones, materials or ethnographic talismans and are completely handcrafted. While I work I am in a meditative, quiet space, infusing each talisman with beneficial energies and my prayers and blessings for you...the unseen energy at the heart of each piece is the true center of my work. Each piece is sent to you beautifully packaged in a hand-decorated gift box or handmade Tarahumara Indian basket.

I do my best to photograph and describe each item carefully, and my shop policy section is as thorough as I can make it. Please read through these, and if you find that they don't answer your questions, contact me through Etsy. As one of my customers, I will stay in touch with you throughout our transaction until I am sure you have your talisman safely and are satisfied.

Thanks for stopping in, and I hope you enjoy your look around!

Desert Blessings,
Dawn

I carefully read the description. Practically poetry. I measure according to the listed specifications. I zoom in on the beautiful photographs and still, when I receive the item- artfully and safely packaged - I'm blown away by the numinous quality of the piece. Thank-you Dawn

It is a lot bigger and chunkier than I I thought it would be is it silver?

Dawn

Dawn responded on Jun 24, 2016

Yes, Bernadette, as I stated in the listing, it is antique coin silver, meaning it is around 90% silver. The size of the necklace and its pendant were also clearly stated in the item description.

Wow, the necklace is even more lovely in person! I have many pieces from Dawn, each with its own personality & flair. I'm never disappointed. Thanks a million!

About

A sharp-edged and unconventional beauty

The desert has always called me.

I work with the textures, shapes, and colors of desert places, making talismans that are to be touched and worn as a connection to the desert in daily life. I create artifacts that honor the spiritual quality of the desert and hold that energy within them.

I see beauty in quiet things, worn things, weathered things...bones, rusted metal, spines. Earth and stone. The ever-changing clear light, the long horizons. All of these translate into my creations and give my talismans shape, but on a deeper level it is the spirit within the land that informs my work.

These pieces are born of tranquil days in the small sunwashed studio in my home. For over 19 years, it has been my center place, a sanctuary where I can watch the progress of the sun and seasons, the weather, and the many birds and animals that live here. I've seen snakes, jackrabbits, hawks, owls, coyotes, roadrunners, even bobcats from my studio windows which are almost always open to the high desert air.

My talismans are a part of my spiritual path and each one that I make is infused with blessing energy, made to honor the earth and the desert I love. Each piece is like a stitch between the worlds, helping to bring together and balance all in wholeness and beauty. They exist as points in a network of light and are intended to be conduits for beneficial spiritual energy to the wearer.

While my spiritual path can best be described as shamanic, it goes beyond any one tradition. Put simply, it is about working with energy and the communion between the dimensions of the spiritual world and our physical one.

My home and studio are ceremonial, sacred space. It is where I keep close to the spirit world, feel the gentle presence of the ancestors, and walk the spiritual path I have been on for over a quarter of a century. I smudge almost daily with burning sage, copal, cedar, or palo santo which helps create a beautiful energy in which to work.

I'm a lover of desert places, a creator of talismans, a bridger of worlds, a desert dweller. I live on desert light. My home and studio, shared with my husband Michael and cats Zia and Jasper, is in Northern New Mexico.
