About Designbykico

Sales 17
On Etsy since 2011

Our dream is to make this a full time job for both of us.

We dream about the day where Design By Kico is a full-time job for both of us and we can't wait.

For Mel the dream has already started as she quit the 9-5er at the end of 2011 to focus on producing a range of hand printed textiles. She has taken courses, made some mistakes, learnt some good lessons and can even sew in a straight line now! Big steps that have all helped in producing the first of many patterns for their home textile range.

Poor Diarmaid is still working away as a Graphic Designer but dedicates his free time to learning the craft of screen printing. Diarmaid loves typography and photography which comes through his designs on our T-Shirts and totes. He also puts a twist on some of Mel's surface designs often taking them in a new direction.

Together we draw on our backgrounds in design to create unique works that we think are a great alternative to all the mass-produced products out there. It is so satisfying to see our ideas come alive through the art of hand printing.

We hope to build a huge range of products that will make people happy. Whether that be colourful hand printed textiles or quirky art prints or something we totally invent one night when drunk!

We hope you stick around and enjoy this journey with us.

After talking about it for years (and years) Melanie and Diarmaid finally started Design By Kico in 2010. But it wasn't until they moved to Sydney in 2011 that they really got stuck in and started producing some beautiful work together.

Additional policies and FAQs
One important issue that is worth mentioning is colours can vary between computer screens, so please keep that in mind when choosing your fabric.

Our designs are screen-printed by hand onto natural fabrics using environmentally friendly solvent-free inks. This process may produce natural variations in the design but rest assure our fabrics are professionally hand printed so it is of a high standard.

You can wash our fabrics in cold water and cool iron on reverse side as desired, but remember it is a natural fabric so allow a 3% shrinkage the first time you wash. Do not soak or bleach. Line dry only – do not tumble dry.

If you are interested in wholesale orders send me a message via Etsy or email me at info [!at] to discuss your order requirements.
