About

A love of science and art.

I like to say that if I could have two loves, one would be science and the other would be art (in no particular order.) You would think it would be difficult to marry two things so inherently different, but opposites do attract.

After receiving my second Design degree and working in the field for a bit, I discovered only too late that I would have made a happy pathologist. Pathogens are amazing! They come in a vast array of alien shapes and have superhero-like abilities. They constantly evolve and adapt to survive. Sure, they try to kill us sometimes, but that's life. Well, I didn't have a spare 13 years with which to start a new career, but what I DID have was a shiny new graphic design endeavor that needed an identity. Thus DESIGNPATHOLOGY was born!

The literal translation of "designpathology" is "the study of the diseases of design". Since a cornerstone of design is improving upon designs of the past (refreshing them, fixing them), I don't think I could have found a better identity.

I am a plucky military wife and mom who finds time to freelance during my stolen moments of peace. Graphic Design is the perfect job for my situation as it requires neither set hours nor set location - two things I am never guaranteed.

Professionally, Designpathology specializes in book covers, logos, and party invitations. When that doesn't quite satisfy, I sell my own fun designs here on Etsy. I enjoy cartoons, gaming, and odd nerd culture stuff, so a lot of my personal designs are based on these. When I collect a spare dollar or two I buy new machines and learn new skills, allowing me to diversify the type of things I can make for myself. Currently, I have collected a beastly MacBook Pro (the mothership), a color laser printer or two, an embroidery machine, a vinyl cutter or two, a 1" button press, and a heat press.

What started as a fun free-time venture on a table in our bedroom has evolved into an entire studio space in our home. When we inevitably move again I look forward to growing a little more and taking my machines, my knowlegde and my customers with me.

Disclaimer: Designpathology does NOT recommend placing Park Like Shit Award Magnets onto random vehicles. People who park like garbage are also usually giant jerks with no sense of humor. These soft magnets are safe for painted metal surfaces, however I am not responsible for damage to vehicles or people as a result of presentation of an Award.
