I hadn't ever really sewn growing up, which is weird because my mom used to make all our clothes. When I got engaged to my husband, his mother and sisters (avid quilters) took it upon themselves to teach me how to quilt. I was hooked after 1 Yellow Brick Road baby quilt!! I started piecing like crazy, sewing whatever I could get my hands on. This left me with lots of quilt tops, but no finished quilts. My sister-in-law was getting out of her longarm quilting business, and offered to let me buy her out. I bought her longarm and supplies and started my own custom quilting business, Designs by Laura Jo.

So who is Laura Jo? Well, it's me - sort of. You might know me better as Busty Larue on social media (@bustylarue on Instagram and Twitter) but I was Laura Jo first. It's a sort of nickname I picked up at one of my first jobs straight out of high school, and it's kind of stuck ever since.

After 10 years in business, I'm branching out to other crafty things. I LOVE to crochet, and find myself dreaming up new projects and finding new things to make all the time. My house is almost as full of yarn as it is of fabric now!
