About

A lifetime of creating

My name is William Deskin and I love making things. I have been tinkering, fixing, and creating since I was a child. I've always loved knowing how things work, and figuring out ways to render my experiences of the world around me.

After graduating from college with a BFA in sculpture, I set out to show and sell my works to the world. The showing part went well; I had my oil paintings, photographs, and sculptures on display at numerous galleries and public spaces in the Pacific Northwest. But it was the selling part that held me back. Works sold, but infrequently. Truly the starving artist meme was taking hold.

So I got a job in a jewelry shop and quickly moved up to working full-time at the jeweler's bench doing repairs and fabricating new pieces. Finally my dream was coming true - a life of sculpting. I soon started my own repair business serving local retailers and individuals. This continued for nearly fifteen years, until business slowed and I realized my heart was no longer in it. I needed to get back to larger scale self-expression.

That's when this shop emerged. Having broken the bonds of the jewelry bench, I've been exploring acrylic painting and small-scale stone and steel sculpture, as well as continuing a life-long passion for photography - now in digital form.

It is my intention to share many of my works here and connect with appreciators of fine art like yourself. My goal is to expand on people's understanding of the world around them by opening their eyes to different ways of looking at the same old thing(s).

I hope you like what you see in my gallery, and encourage conversation if you have thoughts or input on my work, or would like to commission something for yourself or a loved one.

Thanks for spending the time here. See my current works at https://www.deskinfineart.etsy.com

Take care.

Welcome to the Deskin Fine Arts Painting, Photography, and Sculpture Studio! My name is William Deskin, and I have been a sculptor, painter, photographer for over 25 years, showing my work in a number of galleries and juried exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest. Here you'll find some of my more recent works in oil and acrylic paints, as well as digital photography and sculptures in various media. As creative ideas come and go, my inventory will change with my moods and the seasons. So, check back often to see what’s new.

My goal is to create appealing one-of-a-kind images from wherever my imagination may take me. I enjoy mixing simple shapes and lines in abstract interactions, and especially finding those interactions in my daily activities.

I have always enjoyed observing the subtle way different objects interact with each other. Everyday colors, shapes, and textures can be a fascinating experience, if we allow ourselves to notice. We often get so caught up in our daily activities that we lose sight of the wonder that is the world around us.

My photography is an effort to capture and share the simple fascination that exists around us. Edward Weston and Ansel Adams were masters of un-manipulated imagery. And I strive for the same: capturing my subject within the camera lens and keeping the 'fixing' to a bare minimum.

My sculptures and paintings are more about the fluid geometry of existence, as well as about finding alternate ways to tell life's stories. Most of my sculptural works - and many of my paintings - are highly figurative in nature, inspired by geometric abstract artists like David Smith and Henry Moore, and Pablo Picasso.

My artistic vision is a bit eclectic and the creative process is continuous and ongoing. Commissions are gladly considered.

I hope you enjoy what you see.

Shipping
Because most items shown are already made, one-of-a-kind pieces, I will have those items packed and shipped from my studio within 1-4 business days.

Custom or special request items will obviously require more time before shipping, since they will be made after purchase. Photographic prints fall into this latter category, and typically take about 5 working days, as they are printed after an order is placed. The timeframe for commission requests will be discussed on a per-item basis.

All Items shipped to US addresses will require Direct Signature Confirmation.

I am willing to ship INTERNATIONALLY. Shipping costs listed in my shop are for the Continental US only. Please feel free to contact me (through Etsy) with your complete address in order for me to get an accurate shipping quote for you for shipping anywhere else.

For items shipped outside of the US, all brokerage fees, tariffs, duties, fees, and taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. Please include your phone number when you are checking out as the carrier requires this in case they need to reach you.

ALL SHIPPING COSTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER.

US buyers: please make sure your Etsy mailing address is correct! All items shipped within the US will be shipped to your Etsy address, so make sure the one you have on file is correct. If you need it shipped to another address, please let me know IMMEDIATELY, as some orders ship the same day.

Purchased items will not be shipped until payment is received and CLEARED, no exceptions.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to be thrilled with your purchase!

However, if you are unsatisfied, please contact me within 5 days of receiving your order. You’ll need to pay your own return shipping expenses, and return the item to me in new condition - this may require some effort to re-package the item as it was received. Upon receipt of your return, in new condition, I will refund you the full amount minus shipping fees.

If you prefer a credit or an exchange, that can be arranged also, with additional shipping costs.

Custom orders and commission works may or may not be returnable, depending on the item. I am open to discuss it.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders must be prepaid after approval of finished product and before shipment.

Many items are unique pieces, and are represented as accurately as possible in my photos. I have tried my best to recreate the colors, textures, and overall appearance of my work via photographs. I am not always completely successful. Most obviously, some color differences may vary across monitors. Items that are not one-of-a-kind may vary slightly in size and shape from the ‘representative’ image, as each piece is hand-made. Part of the charm of hand-made work is that no two pieces are exactly the same. If you are uncertain, please contact me prior to purchasing. I will be happy to answer your questions or send additional pictures to help you with your decision.

If you are unsatisfied with your item after purchase please refer to the Refund Policy.

Returns or exchanges on custom orders are on a case-by-case basis.

** Please contact me if you are interested in a wholesale account and wish to carry my products in your retail shop.
