About

Creativity Unleashed!

I'm Victoria Sol, the life and soul (and sole person) behind Destai. I make handmade chainmaille jewellery as well as some metal stamped pieces. My items are unique and unusual compared to the jewellery you'll find in most high street shops.

I have always been a creative person. When I was young, I wanted to be an actor. Later I found myself discovering music. Starting at age 16 my world revolved around writing songs. I still write music and lyrics. But all the way through this, I have also enjoyed crafting. Because unlike arts so abstract and ethereal as acting and music, crafts have a tangible product. At the end of the process, there is a real life thing in front of you. I like that.

Through the years I have played with paper, thread, wood, clay and other media, but when I finally started becoming more focused I decided I would try my hand at macramé. My friend taught me how to make friendship bracelets, and that was it. I was in love with the craft.

Since this initial magical moment I have experimented with many different ways of making jewellery. I have played with wire. I have indulged my love for beads and semi precious stones. And I have discovered chainmaille.

Chainmaille is the technique of fitting many small rings together to create larger items. I use both tiny, small and larger rings to construct shapes and patterns, bracelets, necklaces and pendants, earrings and other pieces. It takes a lot of patience, but I can lose myself in the craft, which makes time fly by.

I love what I do and I do what I love. I may not be able to work a normal full time job, but I can create beauty and share it with the world. And if others appreciate my work, then all the better!

I'm Victoria and I'm the sole person behind Destai. I'm a chainmaille artisan and artist, working in many different metals to create both simple and intricate designs.

    Supervisor

Miss Kitty isn't technically employed by my business, she just glares at me until I get back to work. For this, she has earned the title of Supervisor! (Sadly she no longer works with me, but I've kept her on the payroll anyway.)

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalised orders

I am always happy to accept custom orders. Destai's raison d'être is to make jewellery and accessories for everyone, regardless of preferences, size, or other things that may affect items. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want to enquire about something custom made.

Sizing details

I include a rough size in every listing, but some chainmaille weaves can be thicker than expected. If you're uncertain about whether something will fit you, please do not hesitate to ask.

The easiest way to measure your wrist or neck is to take a piece of string, wrap it around your wrist/neck at a comfortable circumference and measure the length of that.

Care instructions

All of my aluminium (both bright and anodised) items, EPDM rubber items, and stainless steel items can be cleaned easily with hot water and soap. I recommend a dishwashing detergent of the "original" type (rather than scented), as this gives the best shine.

My copper and copper alloy items (such as brass and bronze) can be cleaned with a lightly acidic solution, such as lemon juice, or with commercial cleaners.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Most of my items, save keychains, are packaged in branded gift boxes. I have a picture in my "About" section. The keychains are wrapped in bubble wrap. Gift boxes and bubble wrapped items are then put into bubble envelopes and sealed with a sticker and sticky tape.

If you'd like gift wrapping, I can wrap the gift box in tissue paper at request. Please leave a note of this in the comment box at checkout, or send me a message.

I do not include a receipt by default. If you'd like a paper receipt, please request this in the comment box at checkout or in a message.
