Journey to your Destination, Barefoot...

I started creating hemp jewelry, specifically barefoot sandals, in 2010. Our life journey led us from the sunny beaches of Florida, to North Texas, where the climate was scorching hot and scorpions lingered under every rock. This environment caused me to dream of the crystal blue water, enchanting starfish and the sugary white sand we left behind in Florida and so "Destination Barefoot" jewelry was born. Designing beach jewelry is my little escape from reality, it keeps me dreaming of the place I long to be. Even though our journey currently has me resting in the mountains of Colorado, my destination is always barefoot, beside the ocean.

Why design with hemp?
Hemp is a very useful and sustainable resource. It can be used as food, lumber, textiles and even bio-fuel. Hemp grows with little water, fertilizer and pesticides. It does not deplete the soil, instead it returns nutrients to the soil as it grows.

Hemp is naturally associated with beach jewelry and I've always loved the look. As a kid, I remember watching my mom make awesome macrame plant hangers. It seemed so complex, yet intriguing. She would take this jute rope and after a few knots and braids, she would have something cool to hang her plants in. I've always admired her creativity. I thought, if she could do it, surely I could do it. So one day, I decided to sit down and read some tutorials. I learned how to make my first square knot and took off from there.

Most hemp jewelry is made with large beads and the designs are typically the same. My rebellious nature asked, "Why can't I put a dainty pearl on this hemp?" I quickly realized that thick hemp wouldn't fit in that tiny hole, but I didn't give up. I just searched for better materials and finally created my vision. Working with these materials can be quite challenging and requires a lot of patience. Beads break, strings break... I have had hemp splinters, blisters, a piece of glass stuck in my finger from a broken pearl, but the end result is a triumph worth every small battle. These challenges are what keep me interested, if it were boring, I would have quit a long time ago, instead I keep pushing myself to see what else I can create.

Additional policies and FAQs
How many sandals will I get if I order (1)?
...All of my Barefoot Sandals are sold by the Pair, so ordering the quantity of (1) will get you 2 sandals, one for each foot.
Anklets are sold individually or by the pair- you will have the option to choose during checkout.

Can I wear my barefoot sandals in the water?
...Yes. If you have feathers on your sandals, you can "fluff" them back up by using your hair dryer on a low setting. Please allow your sandals to dry thoroughly before storing, hemp is naturally resistant to mildew, but some of the beads and other components may incur damage if sealed up with moisture.
Please note: Wearing your hemp jewelry in water will wear down the materials, to keep your hemp jewelry in pristine condition, keep your jewelry away from all elements, including water and sun.

Can I get this in a different color?
... I am always happy to work with you to match the colors of your wedding theme or other needs. Please start a conversation and I will respond as soon as possible.

If I send you a picture of a design I saw on the web, can you recreate it for me?
...Only if the design was originally created by me, otherwise...No. I feel that every artist's work is significantly their own and I do not infringe on copyright entitlements.

Can you create these barefoot sandals in a smaller size for my flower girl?
...Yes! I can make all of my barefoot sandals in a smaller size to fit your flower girl. I will simply need a measurement of the top of her foot (not including her toes), as well as the circumference around her ankle, preferably in inches.

Size Info:
The standard size of my barefoot sandals will fit women's U.S. shoe sizes 7-9.5 - if you require a size smaller or larger, simply leave a note to the seller informing me of your shoe size and I will make adjustments accordingly.
Some listings give you the option to select your size, in this case, please select the size nearest your normal U.S. shoe size.

Allergy Note:
All items in my shop are made in an area where feathers, hemp, lavender and chamomile are worked with and stored. We are also a kitty friendly home. Please take this into consideration if you have an allergy to any of these materials.
