DetailsandFairyTales is taking a short break

Note from shop owner I will be closed temporarily in order to spend some quality time with my wallcovering business, and I will re-open as soon as it slows down a bit.

I will keep you posted as soon as I have the return date set, and hopefully I will have a bit of time to create some new items while I am away!

Have a great day,

The Story of Details and FairyTales

My name is Michelle and I am 'Details and FairyTales'
I am also 'Wallcovering Installation by Michelle'. I belong to the prestigious NGPP
National Guild of Professional Paperhangers. *There are not many of us left!
Learning as an apprentice, I have hung wallpaper and painted murals for several decades. Sadly, I just recently started to keep photos and a record of my work.
You can find my Wallpapering Websites here:
My history ~
I am a one woman show. I began painting at the age of nine and I've painted everything from portraits to furniture and murals. I also think I have dabbled in every medium known to both the craft and the art world.
In high school I was offered a scholarship to a prestigious art college but decided to marry my high school sweetheart instead. That did not seem to change my path towards a life in arts / crafts.
My first job at the age of 18 was teaching pottery at a ceramics company.
Then, in 1977 I learned how to hang wallpaper and began a long career as a professional muralist, faux painter, paperhanger and decorator.
While working in new construction, as well as existing homes and businesses, I learned hands-on how to lay tile, hang sheetrock, float walls (and many other construction jobs) long before women were accepted as construction workers and 'handymen'.
In June of 2014 I was accepted into the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers and I feel very honored.
It has made me extremely happy to do what I love for a living and I truly have enjoyed an amazing career.

Before 'DIY' was such a huge fad, I was decorating clothing and shoes, building school props, making rugs, leather goods, candles, gifts for teachers and everything in between. Since I have done crafts my whole life, this was a natural progression for me.

The establishment of Details and FairyTales coincided with the birth of my grandchildren, explaining why children's items (and pink) are prominent in my shop. I have been bitten with the Vintage bug as well.

My Website came first and was planned around the idea that I could make so many things for people who could not find that one special, handmade, or custom designed item they were searching for. Because of my many talents I thought I would offer custom and unique gifts.
~ Not long after, I discovered ETSY and found out my concept was already out I joined the many talented Artisans of Etsy!

The separate website is mostly for the gifts and items that are not handmade, and If I do have extra time to daydream, I just love sitting and painting artwork for my own enjoyment.
Some of my creations are totally made by me from scratch, some are built on a bare base or kit and some items are first deconstructed then 'reconstructed' into a different design or perhaps a totally different use. I repurpose bits and pieces of old jewelry, fabric, doilies, wood veneer, (or whatever) any chance I get. I sew and sculpt enough to get me into trouble but you may not see those things for sale at any given time. I paint mostly with acrylics now but I still love oils and enjoy doing pencil drawing or oil pastels occaisionally. I would like to enlarge my offering of artwork in the near future.

For anyone who is anchored and focused with one product or style to their shop (ETSY calls it a theme) mine may seem cluttered and unfocused but to me it is an expression of my many interests. I would be bored if I could not keep exploring different mediums and crafts.
In a nutshell: Crafts excite me, painting soothes me, wallpapering IS me.

I admire the enormous range of skill, talent, and creativity of all craftsmen, artists and artisans and feel honored and humbled residing amongst them here on ETSY.

Like all the other Artisans on ETSY, I love creating things. My unique, hand made products are made with love and I put much time into each one. I want them to last and be enjoyed long after they are purchased.
Please read my "About" section to find out more about me, my history and my process.
After purchasing something, I would GREATLY appreciate Feedback so others can see how I am doing. Thanks!

I accept the whole range of payments allowed on ETSY for domestic purchases: PayPal, Credit Card ( through Direct Check out, you pay with your credit card just like you shop online anywhere else) or E-Check through the ETSY PayPal portal.

Need help? Go to this page:

NOTE: ETSY/PayPal always advises a short hold on the Credit Card Payment and E-Checks while they clear. This may or may not delay your shipping for a day or two.

**Please read my Shipping Policies if you are paying with a Credit Card and I am shipping your item to a PO Box address.

Gift Cards are now available for you to purchase for my shop!

Contact me if you are in the UK, Canada or another country and would like to purchase something. I have to reset my Paypal to accept the payment and have to add additional shipping charges. I do not sell to all countries.
**Note: Any additional Customs Charges and fees outside of those I charge for the item, will be the purchaser's responsibility.
Custom orders (ONLY) are taking longer than may be stated on the listing.
Please check with me for those shipping times before ordering.
All other items have expected shipping times posted on the page with the shipping cost. Already completed products will ship on my next trip to the Post Office which is two to three days per week. The days are random.

Because of a couple of misprints I need to remind everyone to double check your shipping address and zip code. I copy and paste it. If it is wrong and your item is undeliverable, I will have to charge to reship it.

As stated above, it is taking me an extended period of time to complete custom orders (ONLY). For items which are ready to go (and not custom or being altered in any way), I normally ship within one to three business days. See below for exceptions which apply over and above those listed with the item ~

* Purchases made through Paypal will ship the quickest because there is no hold on the funds.

1. If I am shipping to a PO Box and you pay by Credit Card through the Shop Payment Account, your shipping may be delayed until the payment is in my bank. Sometimes it is deposited quickly and ocaissionaly it takes until the next Monday after purchase. If you contact me with a confirmable home address and phone number, I can ship the item quicker.
** Having said that, please do not be offended if I contact YOU for this extra information. I do not like delaying the shipping.
2. Weather, or my vacation are the only other things that may hold up my times and I will contact my customers through my home page under those circumstances.
I ship USPS Standard. It will be bumped up to First Class if the size of the package allows. I always send a shipping notification later in the day, on the day it is shipped.
You will recieve a Shipping Notification later in the day ON THE DAY it is shipped. All notifications will include a Tracking Number, (domestic packages). You may check this to see where your package is. I ALWAYS provide a Tracking Number for domestic packages.

*If you want Insurance on your package please let me know so I can add it to the purchase price.

*Priority Shipping which includes $50. worth of insurance is available for an extra fee. If you would like Priority Shipping please let me know when you order so I can adjust the price, or send a separate invoice for it.
Priority will get the item to you in two days AFTER it is made. The shipping time and the time to make the order are two separate things. *If it takes me two days to construct your item it will be four days to get it by adding Priority shipping.
**Note: If I ship to a Country with any additional Customs Charges and fees, these will be the purchaser's responsibility.
If you have any questions please send me a message. (Or Convo as Etsy calls it : )
Refunds and Exchanges
TO AVOID HAVING TO RETURN, EXCHANGE OR CHANGE ANY ITEM: Please ask any and all questions you may have before purchasing. I will be glad to send additional photos if you need to see something I have not shown on the listing page.

Please contact me if you are just not happy with your purchase. I will refund your purchase price minus *actual, or charged shipping costs (see below) up to twenty days from the date purchased if there is nothing wrong with the item and only if it was not personalized, custom, vintage or wholesale.
~ ~ *There are many times I pay more to ship the item than I charge the customer. I have to retain THAT amount if you return the item, otherwise I refund the purchase price minus the posted shipping charge. I will gladly include a copy of the shipping receipt if this scenario ever occurs or you would just like to have it otherwise.~ ~

Any returned item must be in the same condition as it was shipped and in saleable condition with all packaging in place. After it is recieved and inspected, I will issue a refund minus the shipping costs as stated above.

All my items are made with the greatest care but I am human and these are 'handmade" items. Please expect some differences in your item from the photos if it is something I make more than one of, such as my Night Lights. ~ Example: the fabric placement may be slightly different. I try to make each one as close as possible to the original. I do not have time to take and resize photos each time I list the same item over again. Having said that, you may request photos of your completed item, for approval, before I ship it.

If there are any problems with your item due to a defect in the way it was made, you must contact me as soon as the item is received and no later than 3 days of receipt for instructions on how to send it back to be repaired or replaced.
You will not have to pay the return shipping fee for something I did.
If possible I will fix or remake the item once I have received the defective one back ~ then I will ship it back to you as soon as possible.
In cases where the item can not be remade or repaired, I will do my best to work with you on an alternate solution or offer a refund.

VINTAGE items are not returnable for any reason due to the nature of Vintage not being sold as new and the expections of such.

WHOLESALE items are not often sold in my shop but when they are, I do not accept returns or exchanges on them.

I wrap and package each item carefully. I even put items that could go into a mailing envelope in a box for added protection. After I have shipped the package it is out of my control. *If damage or loss occurs during shipping you must contact the USPS. I will assist with any claim if needed.

*Please read my Shipping Policies.
Additional policies and FAQs
I send messages and communications through ETSY. You must check these often after a purchase to avoid shipping delays. Etsy is a 'Handmade' marketplace where customers and artisans interact. Because of this, the experience is more personal and, I think, much more enjoyable. These conversations or 'Convos' as ETSY calls them, are my only way to ask you import questions that may arise while I am making your item : )

All pieces (except vintage and wholesale items) are created by hand or altered in a way to make them unique. Because of this (if there are more than one of an item available) no two items will be identical. I do try to make them as close to identical as possible but these same differences, from one item to the next, is the charm of 'hand made'

Many of my items can be changed up just the way you want or personalized. Often there is no extra charge for custom changes. Since many things are one of a kind and handmade by nature, you will be charged the same as another similar item.
Some custom and / or personalized items will require payment before I can begin.
Please contact me with your particular project and let me explain the process.

~I will give you an opportunity to see and approve of your custom and/or personalized item when it is completed and before it is shipped.
