I was able to custom order this ring dish which made me very happy. I love it and it's really well made. Would definitely shop here again!

About

Dad and Daughter team

Welcome to dgordon, hand built pottery! Robert Gordon, my Dad, and I are a team! :) We create handmade, hand built ceramic pottery, with an earthy look and feel.
UPDATE: Dad passed away on Oct 16, but in my heart we are still a team!
**We offer wholesale rates, as well as retail, convo me for terms**
Please note: My work is made to be lightweight for a delicate look. It is not a heavy clunky piece of pottery.
~~ Our work is unglazed on the bottom where the pottery touches the kiln shelf, and then signed~~
Please remember, colors may vary from monitor to monitor!
The white pieces are an Antique white, which is a slightly creamy off white.
Hand built pottery is not machine made! It will have it's own personality and imperfections, which makes it a truly unique piece!
Please hand wash to preserve the life of your pieces.
Since all our pieces are hand painted with glaze it is characteristic to notice variations in color including specks in the glaze.
My dad, Robert, who's a potter with many pieces in Galleries from NC to South Florida, said "let me teach you clay." I started it to please him (yup, I'm a daddy's girl) and after a few months I realized I LOVE the feel of clay under my hands. I LOVE watching an idea form under my hands... and more often that not, my hands just move with the clay and whatever forms, forms without my thought or guidance.
We had no intention of selling our work. But it began piling up and one day we realized there was no more storage room! So Dad said "Let's sell it"
My daughter mentioned Etsy. Said it was a great place to "showcase" our pieces. So we did!
******* The process****
Many times we are asked if we can "rush" a custom piece. Sometimes we are asked if we can have it ready in a week! Here is why the answer is "No".... this is the birth process for just one little ring holder...
To make a ring holder we..
come up with an idea of what I'd like it to look like..
I cut 25 lbs of clay with a wire tool.
I put a piece in my hand cranked slab roller.
I take the slab and press lace into the wet clay.
I hand cut the shape I want.
I let it dry a bit and them form it into a bowl shape.
I roll out the posts.
I attach the post with slip.
Once its dry I take a wet sponge to smooth the edges.
It has to sit for several days (depending on the thickness) to dry.
It gets fired the first time in our own kiln for 9 hours.
The next day I hand glaze it, adding details.
I fire it the second time.
I take it out of the kiln and breathe a sigh of relief that it didnt warp, that the glaze came out perfect and that there are no imperfections.
I take a pic, list it on etsy, and personally pack it once it sells.
Part of this process includes having to fill (make enough pieces!) our rather large kiln before we can run it. Each load will hold about 200 pieces depending on the size of the items.
Hand made from start to finish!
