These are so cute. I kept two and used two as gifts. They looked so sweet tied to the package to decorate it!

Down Home Quilting

I started Down Home Quilting back in 1999, after becoming frustrated with other patterns. My goal was to create patterns that just about any level of quilter could tackle. One pattern led to another.....and that leads to my hand dyed fabrics. How many of you go into a quilt shop and cannot find the right shade or tone of fabric? My hand dyed fabrics resulted from a trip to a small quilt shop and coming home frustrated. I find such inspiration from color. I often have to pick the colors I want to use before I start designing.
I branched out into teaching classes and holding retreats - it was so much fun to turn others into quilting junkies too. :-) The friendships and support that comes from a quilt family is priceless.
I got into landscape quilting more by force <grin>. I was convinced that I couldn't make one, let along teach others because you have to be an artist to do them....I am so glad that I didn't listen to my own negativity!!! I found another passion of being able to let my artistry shine without the rules and constraints of regular piecing.
Finally, I added my crafting and photography to the business. I have been doing both for more years than I can count. I hope to add new angel ornaments this year, along side new photos.
Some day maybe I will slow down......because during all the creative chaos, I still have a day job working as school counselor in a therapeutic classroom. I need the creative outlet as a way to relax. I am also introducing it to the students I work with as a form of art therapy. :-)
There is so much more to my story, but I don't want to keep you from your shopping. Feel free to send me a message. I will get back to you as soon as I can. I love to hear about projects people are working on. It helps to keep me in that creative mood!

Welcome to Down Home Quilting Fabrics & Patterns (DHQuilting). I started my business in 1999. I love working with and creating hand dyed fabrics. There is something magical about the process and no two fabrics are the same. I started designing quilt patterns out of frustration. My first one was launched at a quilt retreat and that was the beginning of my design career.

I do have a day job as a school counselor. I am finding that many of my students respond to creative activities. It is a great way to de-stress and to find a common bond.

I started adding crafts and photography to my shop. I can't remember a time that I didn't "craft". I am working on a new angel design to add to the site, just in time for the holidays. As for photography, there is something pure and relaxing in the process. As I get lost in color when I am creating fabrics, I get lost in color of the photos I take.
