About

Sustainable beekeeping and a rich life.

I have all sorts of degrees: a B.S. in Biochemistry/biophysics, another B.S. in Microbiology, and a M.S. in Environmental Science with emphasis in Environmental Education from Oregon State University. I was planning on going to Naturopathic medical school, but got turned off by all the loans. I tried, but really didn't want to work inside at a lab. I pretty much quit it all and started working on organic vegetable farms. I worked so hard that I finally got well. I tell folks, if you're going through changes, get your hands directly in the dirt and you'll start getting answers. At least that's what happened to me and I fell in love with it. I became an agricultural activist and still am. I worked as the manager and co-farmer at the Youth Garden Project through the Corvallis Environmental Center. It was a dream job for me. Inspiring the youth in agriculture, working hard, and giving all the food we produced away to the food banks. It was so rewarding. I left to start the dream of someday having my own farm with my own kids and southern Oregon was calling our names. I am so thankful for this life to wake up everyday on the farm that I created with my family and I owe it all to my love of agriculture. Making it work is a different story, it's been a struggle mostly because it didn't get handed to us, we've had to work for it. Having kids and raising them outside the system is a commitment everyday, every moment, to faith of homegrown happy kids getting to know play and work can exist as one. Our kids are homeschooled and I think the number one thing we teach is positivity and being grateful. So yes, YES, yes, we're here and we're making a GO at living close to the land, solutions for sustainable beekeeping, happy children, and a rich life. Everything happens for a reason... that biochemistry came in handy with soap making and we do a lot of environmental education about the problems with palm oil thus, our emphasis on regional alternatives for ingredients, as well as, educating folks about sustainable beekeeping. Funny the way things come around.
