About DiligentHandsFabrics

Sales 206
On Etsy since 2017

Diligent Hands Fabrics is a retailer of African Prints simply put we are an African prints (fabrics) shop

My first sourcing trip to Ghana was in 2007 which launched my retail business. Hand picking and looking out for stand out designs that offered a deal of flexibility. With more confidence I started making trips to Benin Republic visiting Cotonou every other week for prints. Those steps have lead me to this point. I sell prints from different part of Africa, Several now come from Nigeria and Ghana.

In the many years I have been in business my passion is finding diversified designs as African prints become more mainstream. Fine picking products that suit a diverse set of needs crafts and dressmaking is necessary to keep a refined polished and luxurious appeal for whatever project that is being worked on. As you would find Diligent Hands Fabrics is a one of a kind African Prints retail shop.

I keep working to ensure our listings are mature, youthful, tasteful, fresh, look expensive in spite of our pocket friendly price. The designs I showcase are always intricate yet delicate in texture, using the finest materials and having gone through stringent quality validation.

Why have we here?

Firstly as a filter
All the products are sourced directly from manufacturers and where it is not possible to buy directly, I only purchase through recommended designated partners of the supplier. Most of my sourcing partners are African based businesses that feed into the economy of their domicile country. I also work with talented African ingenious designers in diaspora.

I don't buy imitation designs or cheaper quality products to increase my bottom-line. Shopping with Diligent Hands Fabrics can guarantee you would not be conned. We keep our eyes on the quality mark and incorporate our customer feedback into our sourcing process. The work is already done work for you so you can have peace of mind about your purchase. If it's not the real deal...it's not on display here ☺ and I dare say you can take that to the bank!

Secondly I keep the collection fresh
Diligent Hands Fabrics is all about keeping it fresh and relevant. My product selections have been handpicked for the target clientele; my approach is to create a boutique style appeal. My business supports a network of authenticated savvy designers whose work are not mass produced or found in the market places. As you would find some of my listings have a theme or story behind the print. The designs range from contemporary to classic and sometimes just funky so there is always something for everyone.

I stock products in different textures, aesthetic with lots of interesting illustrations and paradigms. The shop is set to make you dig further into your creative genes. I love to say with our listings" the more you look the more you see". So look once then look again you would see something you never saw before.

Thirdly I am here to support you.
I am happy to answer questions on the products or general questions about fabrics, styling, sizes, custom orders, restocking options or anything you may fancy asking. If you are new to the African prints world it could get overwhelming going through the various alluring patterns and bold colours. I may be out of a favourite design but may restock if you enquired. Keep your questions coming they help me be better prepared to serve you while popular questions are added to the FAQ.

Lastly
I am here to provide you with choices. I want you to have an "ah ha" moment all the time. Tired of seeing the same old designs? Tired of drawing better designs in your head than what is available in shops? Well maybe we can change that!

Sometimes, the products offered most times can be only found with me as they are custom ordered.
Yes I am that meticulous!I take care to stock a wide range yet handpick every single one of them. While we know there is more in numbers, the last feeling you want to have 20 people wear the same print if it is not a party uniform!

My favorite thing about selling prints is the customer experience it provides, the attention to satisfy customers at all levels. The expression change on the clients faces when they see the item they believe is perfect. It's the most rewarding part of my experience. I aim to provide a boutique atmosphere online and you get personalized service and expert knowledge on the products.

I appreciate your custom, referrals and general support. If you experience anything shy of a 5 star treatment tell me so I can fix it. If you as expected get the celebrated treatment you deserve please don't keep it to yourself either. I would be happy to hear about it in the reviews section so i can save that unique treatment for you the next time you show up.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

As one who has owned lots of fabrics and clothing made from my collections here are some of my tips.

1. Hand wash/ dry cleaning is best. If using machine wash do so at low temperature 30 degrees. If soiled hand wash the area prior to machine wash.

2. Do not soak for a long time before wash.

3.Wash inside out using mild laundry products.

4. Ironing would be easier if conditioned and use spray starch to keep in shape.

Wholesale availability

I have no wholesale availability at the moment all listings are sold on retail basis. I offer a discount voucher for repeat customers. If you do not get one automatically please contact me.

Custom and personalised orders

Kindly let me know what specific details you want in your order and I would do my best to meet it. I offer gift options so if you would like to send a gift out to someone kindly let me know alongside your order.

Is 1 yard fabric big enough for a headwrap?

Yes it is!
From research a standard headwrap is 70"x 22". A yard fabric is 35"x45". While you have half the length the width is double. Depending on how elaborate you want your headwrap styled, there is enough fabric for simple side, back and front ties. However you may be constrained when considering some styling options.

How much fabric do I need for a maxi skirt?

3 Yards would be a good amount of fabric to buy. This allows for the full and rounded look. Do remember that a skirt cut is different from a wrapper wear.

What is your fat Quaters size?

Depends on the fabric Width
Most come are cut 18" ×24", however some wax prints and Adire are still standard 18"x 22"

How is your shipping calculated

Most of my shipping is done through Royal Mail. I have tried several options and have resolved to stick with them due to price stability and reliability.

Shipping costs are calculated based on small parcel weight (2Kg) and insurance compensation (£50).

1 Yrd = 0.15Kg
3 Yrd = 0.45Kg
6 Yrd= 0.9Kg
12 Yrd = 1.8Kg

Insurance buckets for compensation vary and having the right bucket ensures that the customer would have a full compensation if needed.
£1-£20
£21-£50
>£50

Both weight and value are considered during shipping, a low weight and high value may put the order in the next bucket. Most times I am able to send the parcels for less than quoted and you can always see this on the stamp. I issue a refund for the excess of shipping costs.
