Greetings and Salutations!

To get the blunt and gritty out of the way my craftsman business lies in creating artifacts that mix form with aesthetic. Leather is my primary medium and leather carving my forte. I act a random student of design in pursuit of perfecting my work and how it's applied in human use. To this end leather is remarkably suited bearing in it not only elastic and enduring properties but affording for malleable adaptability as well.

My personal flavours range among esoteric and fantastic lines. I've a deep-seated fascination with ancient, occultish mysticism as well as the seduction of well-told adventures. I've a soft spot for the majesty of rough mechanics and am a devoted acolyte of sensual aesthetic. Steampunk as a fashion as well as philosophy fascinates me - the spirit of innovation born out of necessity unbounded by disappointment yet with its own sense of elegance.

Perhaps part of the lure is its mystique - the world not as it is but the as it could be. To grasp the holy fire of the gods, the power of creation, and enact upon the world a new legacy. Each of us is truly divine - part creation, part creator. In this not only do we find a place in the world but shape it to our own desires. We are limited less by circumstance than by the extent of our own imaginations.

To Explore, to Nurture, to Create my own Legacy - that is part of the song that boils through my soul and drives me to bring forth new wonders to the world of experience and imagination.

Accepted payment methods

Returns and exchanges
In the event that you are not satisfied with your purchase items may be returned for a partial reimbursement. A refund will be issued for the original price of the sale minus initial shipping costs, associated transaction fees and any depreciation on the item which may have occurred during transit or while it was in the client's caretaking. Refunds are made upon receipt of original item. Returns may only be made within the first 30 calendar days of the original shipping date. Customer is responsible for return shipping on all items.

Due to their personalized nature I do not accept returns or exchanges on custom orders.

Customers who have not received their product within 30 calendar days of original shipping date may request a replacement piece or full refund on insured purchases only. Uninsured purchases are at the mercy of the postal system and are not eligible for replacement/refund.

Insured items which arrived damaged may be returned within 30 calendar days from the original date of shipping for a replacement or full refund. Uninsured purchases are at the mercy of the postal system and are not eligible for replacement/refund.

Purchases may only be exchanged for items of similar value within two calendar weeks of initial order shipping. Client must pay return postage as well as postage on exchange item. Exchange item will only be shipped out once initial item is received in original condition and exchange shipping has been received in full.
Currently I am accepting only PayPal, Personal Check or Money Orders for transactions. Full payment is due prior to shipping. Checks should be made out to "Aaron Rathbun Enterprises". Prices listed are in US Dollars.

At this time taxes are included in the listed price of all items.

Work is started on custom orders once 1/2 the agreed upon price is received in deposit (this is required to cover cost of materials + labor). The full balance must be paid in full before shipping occurs.

Orders may be canceled for a full refund prior to shipping (minus any associated transaction fees). Orders that have already shipped are subject to the Returns policy (see below). Custom orders cancelled before work has begun on the piece may be refunded in full (minus any associated transaction fees). Custom orders canceled once work has begun may be refunded all but 25% of the agreed-upon price. Custom orders cancelled once work has been completed but prior to shipping may only be refunded all but 50% of the agreed-upon price.

Orders may be changed prior to shipping to accord with bulk shipping discount rates an listed market prices. Orders that have already shipped are subject to the Returns policy (see below) or may be treated as a new transaction. Custom orders changed before work has begun may be subject to different fees depending on the extent and nature of the changes. Custom orders may not be changed once work has begun.
Items are sent out within 1-3 days from time payment is received unless otherwise notified (I do take vacations, believe it or not!). Most items may take 2-5 business days in transit for domestic shipping, 3-10 business days for international.

Items are packaged to ensure the safety of the items purchased using federally approved materials.

All orders include delivery confirmation in cost of shipping. Signature on Delivery is available upon request at additional cost of $2.50. Insurance is included in cost of shipping for all items listed over $125. Insurance and other shipping options may be purchased at additional cost to the customer upon request.

Interested parties may request Express/One-Day/Overnight shipping at additional cost. For rates please consult USPS, FedEx or UPS (shipping from Dallas, Tx zip code 75219).

Sales to the United States are sent via United States Postal Service. Multiple orders sent to the same address can be shipped together for a bulk discount rate.

I am currently investigating various carriers for best shipping rates and security options. International customers may recommend a preferred carrier package and will need to add those rates plus Customs costs onto onto the price of the item.

Items intended as gifts may be shipped to a specified recipient's address rather than the purchaser's.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders on current product lines, that involve minor variations on those items or are recreations of pre-existing work may take 2-3 weeks production time. One-of-a-kind designs or extensive variations of current product lines are evaluated on a case-by-case basis for production time. Orders requiring special or out-of-stock hardware may require additional production time.

More items are lost in the mail during December than any other month of the year. Because of this I would strongly recommend that anyone making purchases during November through December consider adding Insurance (see above) to their transaction if it is not already included.

Purchases may be sent pre-wrapped in gift paper for an additional $5 per order. Tarot cases are shipped "Gift Ready" at no additional cost.

Leather goods may over the lifetime of the piece acquire minor scratches, marring, marks or stains from sweat, oils or other common substances. Whether by accident or through use such marks are often permanent. While many people feel these add character and uniqueness to the piece others may wish to keep their leather goods in a closer to pristine condition. With proper care & treatment well-made leather goods can last casual use for years. (One of the oldest leather artifacts - a painted dog collar found in King Tutankhamun's tomb - has survived intact for over 3000 years!)

* Do not submerge or leave leather goods in water. Latigo especially soaks moisture up and will be more likely to stretch out of shape. Any tooling may become greatly diminished.

* Avoid prolonged contact between leather and sweat. Though the water content has its own hazards (see above) it acts as a transmission agent for infusing the leather with saline which then crystalizes once the water evaporates. This hardens the leather considerably.

* Salt stains can be cleaned off the surface of most leather with a 1-part vinegar, 2-part water solution applied sparingly with a sponge or washcloth.

* Do not use chemical cleaning agents on leather. Many manmade compounds have all sorts of elements designed to strip leather of its finishes and cohesive properties.

* For light cleaning use a lightly water-dampened sponge on latigo and chrome-tanned leather.

* For heavy cleaning use a saddle soap sparingly in addition to a sponge and water on latigo and chrome-tanned leather. Be sure to follow up with a conditioning oil treatment (see below).

* Clean suede with a soft brass-bristle brush or a suede-specific cleaning agent.

* Use oil-based conditioners rarely and sparingly. Too little oil (lubrication) will lead to cracking over time. Too much oil will darken leather (an irreversible process) but more than that it will attract dirt & grime, act as a breeding ground for bacteria and loosen the natural fibrous bond of leather causing it to soften, stretch out of shape and eventually fall apart. Neetsfoot Oil, Dubbins and Lexol are three of the more recommended products for this.

* For quick conditioning and general weathering protection harder (non-garment, non-suede) leathers may be treated with leather balms (use as directed). Beeswax applied to exposed edges can be buffed off with a coarse cloth for a smooth finish.

* For a quick shine shoe polish may be used on harder (non-garment, non-suede) leathers. Keep in mind that polish is just what it says - polish - and should not be considered a replacement for actual cleaning/conditioning. Use caution when selecting a polish - avoid toxic compounds and choose a colour that best suits your item. Some discolouration might occur.

* Avoid leaving leather in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. Not only will damp or freshly conditioned leather dry unevenly but the sun's rays will stimulate the deterioration process.

Repairs are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may include shipping costs in addition to their repair fee.
