When there is a lot of saw work ahead, I keep my blade lubricated by drawing it across this wax disc. They are made for waxing sewing thread and I just remove the plastic shield before using.

About

Finding Joy in Silver and Stone

I always played with art, from crayons through pastels and charcoal, to oils, acrylics and watercolors. Then, one day, a flyer for a silver jewelry course caught my eye. Intrigued, I enrolled — and fell in love. Being able to manipulate metal into a shape of my choosing was pure delight. Texturing it was magic. Melting and pouring silver was alchemy. I was hooked.

I opened DixSterling in 2009 and it took awhile to get the hang of etsy. I had a LOT to learn about product photograph, promotion and social media. In May, 2013, I took a deep breath and began blogging. I also joined the Creative Jewellers Guild of British Columbia — a great place to share ideas and techniques with other artisan jewelers <http://www.creativejewellersguild.com/Home_Page.html>. I just keep on learning and few things give me as much pleasure as sitting at the bench and picking up my torch or a hammer.

About 20 years ago, on impulse, I enrolled in a silversmithing course and fell in love with silver and stones. Everything in my shop springs from my head and hands. I hope one of these pieces will become your signature piece.
