All Death and Texas bags and accessories are handcrafted in the DNTX leatherworking studios down by the brooklyn waterfront. I design by the very inefficient process of overdesigning, just to whittle it down to exactly all that’s needed and not too much more. form follows function with a healthy pinch of tradition. I like to think of Death and Texas as versatile interpretations of the classics.

So cute and fresh for the summer. The leather will just get richer over time. Great size for grab and go.

What an amazing object. Rich materials and flawless craftsmanship. You'd be hard pressed to find a bag this beautiful for so little. She should be charging twice the price. Plus, DnTX's service was awesome! Nice work, Grace!

About

Based in Brooklyn, made deep in the heart of DNTX

Death and Texas may sound like a dire name, but I’ve always found inspiration in the images and aura surrounding this great state. You name it: rodeo costumes, tooled leather, old cowboy boots, equestrian gear, horse tack…I even like the way the landscape photographs, like in old movies where the sunset casts a pink glow over everything and still it all looks so tough. Of course, I’m romanticizing it a bit here, but my love is real.

A little about me: I was born in Dallas, TX, and as far back as I remember and most likely before that, I’ve been making things – drawing, painting, taking things apart in my head and building something new with my hands. I studied sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI and then went on to work as a designer and production manager for an accessories company in NYC for 2 years. That’s where I started designing bags in my head.

I dusted off my sewing machine and started designing and sewing bags for real this time. I couldn’t stop and I started to think about all the things I wished I could find that just weren’t out there. Or things that are typically only made to fit men, but needed a little tweaking to fit a lady, like me! And that’s how the line has come to be about, what I see as, versatile interpretations of the classics.

I make everything by hand from designing, cutting, molding the leather, riveting, sewing, basically everything from start to finish! I design by the very inefficient process of overdesigning, just to whittle it down to exactly all that’s needed and not too much more. Form follows function with a healthy pinch of tradition.

Sewing, patternmaking, and leatherwork are all techniques that I’ve picked up on my own. I’m a firm believer that in the end, you can teach yourself just about anything.

About the leather: I like to use leather just where it is needed and necessary, as I see it as both a precious and unique resource.

About the fabric: Wear it in, kick it around, it’s designed to be.
Both waxed cotton and leather, in my opinion, get better with age.
