Unique and simple. A wonderful idea when you need to tell someone a special message. Love it and I'm sure the recipient of the gift will as well!
Made by hand, for you.
Artisan jewelry can trigger past memories in people or act as an anchor as they go through a difficult time. Different shades of metal in jewelry will complement a person's skin tone: The right jewelry will complete a fashion statement by bringing an ensemble together for the wearer.
I was inspired toward art by my mother, who worked as a professional runway and photographic model in the 1940s. Mom was a trained watercolor artist and a true Southern Belle. When I created art or jewelry she would always remind me to keep my lines free. She was truly a free spirit. Mom has long passed from this world but I know that a part of her is echoed in my work.
I have created in a number of genres over the years. I have worked in furnace glass, metal smithing, drawing, jewelry, print making, layout and design, pottery and textiles. But I always come back to designing jewelry and drawing.
In 2004 I established Low Country Studios in Charleston SC. However customers were asking for my artisan jewelry designs in markets and craft shows by my given name instead of my business name. I took the leap and re-branded my wearables under Dolly Paul Design. I was a little nervous moving in that direction, but it has been a positive move. And that is how Dolly Paul Design, here on Etsy, was born.
My mission as an artisan jeweler is to produce works in an eco-friendly manner (I employ ethical metal smithing practices): Creating handcrafted works that reflect my geographic environment and support my clients' inner work. Whenever possible, I will incorporate recycled elements into my work. There is a peaceful, prayer-like energy that melds its way into handmade pieces. You can feel it when you hold a work that is completely handcrafted without the assistance of laser cutters or other modern crafting machines. To me, a handmade work is a reflection of humanity - its imperfections, diversity, unique beauty, and time in being birthed.
As an artist I am intrigued with: the attitude of metals - their resistance and willingness to change; the qualities of light and blocked light in fine art, and; the process of pulling prints. All of my work is produced by me alone, and by hand. I studied drawing and music formally in college. Drawing is the foundation for all of my artisan and fine art work. I hold a BA and an MA.
Please look for me the next time you visit Charleston. You can find me at the Charleston City Market in downtown Charleston when they have extra table space. To find me in other markets, festivals and shops, you can follow me on Facebook as "Dolly Paul Design", and on Instagram. Thank you for taking an interest in my work.
The real boss makes sure each piece is inspected closely before making it to the shop store wall. We met on Valentine's Day and have lived happily ever after.
