Just a few of my pincushion designs.
* Pincushion Boutique * Handmade Emery Pincushions *
You won't find pincushions like these at the craft store! My pincushions are filled with emery (an abrasive) to keep pins and needles sharp. Mine are not only fun to look at, they're the most practical pincushions you'll ever own!

I opened shop on etsy in 2006. In the early days I listed all kinds of things - sewn, crocheted, rug hooked, embroidered. I must say that I love to do it all!
Soon after opening on etsy I remembered a bag of emery that I had purchased after seeing Martha Stewart create an emery pincushion shaped like an acorn. I whipped up a couple of rectangular emery pincushions and listed them on etsy. Pretty soon, that one black and white floral pincushion became my best selling item. It even made it to the "top 100 items" list back when etsy was just a baby.
I started adding pincushions made with different fabrics. Then I came up with the brilliant idea of making pincushion rings. I came up with the design and they started selling even better than my original pincushion. I was so excited about my pincushion rings that I got the designs copyrighted! Really. Totally official.
Then I started designing different shapes - tomatoes, strawberries, pea pods, cupcakes. I started making pincushion rings filled with emery. Many new designs made an appearance in my shop. I have more ideas than I have time!
At some point in the early days, I decided to concentrate solely on pincushions. I still love to do all kinds of needle arts, but pincushions became my "thing".
My pincushions are totally original. Back when I started, and for years after, you couldn't find a pincushion ring or an emery pincushion anywhere. There are others making something similar now but I think that my designs are still unique.
My years of experience making and using my emery pincushions is a huge asset in my design and creation process. I know just what to do to be sure that they're constructed well. They're made to last. I use the best grade of emery. I know how to make them so the emery isn't going to escape. I know how to pack it good and tight to give pins the best possible benefit. At this point, I sure know what I'm doing and you'll be able to tell when you get a hold of one of my pincushions.
Since making that first emery pincushion in 2006, I went from purchasing 5 pounds of emery at a time to 150 pounds at a time. I've had thousands of satisfied buyers and enjoyed every minute of it.
Thank you for visiting my corner of etsy. If you have any questions or custom requests, please drop me a line!

I design and create all of the pincushions you see in my shop. I love coming up with new pincushion ideas and figuring out how to make them a reality that's super cute while still being practical.
