About

Hand painted jewellery. Beelzebub approved, paraben-free.

Painting oddities has been my favorite activity for over 12 years and in 2016 I've decided to combine my painting skills with jewelry making, which I've loved to craft for just as long.

Drakula Approved has been born from my love of all things dark and weird and I decided I want to bring into the world tiny surreal paintings that can be worn. I strive to create original designs while at the same time maintaining a dark gothic tone to everything I make. Waking up every day thinking what little bizarre thing to create next is true bliss!

My shop is called "Drakula Approved" because everything receives the Dracula seal of approval before being sent out, and I do happen to be from the Transylvania area (in Romania).

Some of the materials I use include: tiny paintings on card (waterproofed, of course), glass covers, metal frames, lace, real 24k gold leaf or silver leaf, velvet, chains, resin, tiny prints (although I will always say if something is an original or printed), and various others. Inspiration tends to come easily to me and in many forms, from things such as historical images, the animal kingdom (including all kinds of unusual creatures and insects), the gothic pantheon, Christian imagery, etc.

I also sell some of my original art and prints.
In 2015 I decided to do a "drawing a day" type of challenge, which turned into a creature a day (they all reside here: http://periodicslapdash.tumblr.com/). My favorite kind of creatures have been parasites in famous paintings, which took my art style from line drawings and watercolor to detailed and dark gouache and acrylic. This inspired me to transfer my surreal miniature art to jewellery as well.

So here we are.

Thank you for dropping by and I hope you enjoy my art and creatures!

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging

If you wish to send something as a gift, I would be more than happy to gift wrap it for you and can even include a written message for the receiver on your part.

Custom and personalised orders

If you like a certain piece but would like something custom made for you, please send me a private message explaining what you would like and I will let you know if it's something I can make and how long it would take. If it's all good and payment is sent, I will make the order and post it tracked, but please note that for some items processing time might be delayed depending on what supplies I need to order and how long they take to arrive.

Sizing details

If you desire a certain length for a chain or necklace, I am happy to shorten or add length to what I have available.
Please let me know if you have an allergy to any kind of metal - if you send me a message I can let you know if I can replace metal parts with alternatives.
This might also involve a longer processing time if I need to order certain supplies, but if you don't mind waiting I will gladly find an alternative for you.

Care instructions

My artwork is usually glued to a frame and covered in glass or resin so it is waterproof. That being said, I have quite a few pieces made with lace or fabrics and I wouldn't recommend getting them very wet. They should be stored in a cool dry place, so please keep away from damp areas.
If a fabric gets dirty I would recommend using dry cleaning if possible, or a wet soapy cloth to remove stains.
Please avoid scratching glass/resin that protects the artwork, so please don't store right next to anything with sharp corners/edges.

Creating the artwork.

Each painted piece is one of a kind, painted by hand, and although I use reference images for the anatomy of animals, skulls, etc., the overall image and design is from my imagination.

Each miniature can take anywhere between 1 to 3 hours to complete, plus the assembly, so many pieces are rather time consuming to create.

Also, I think I should mention that I work with a lot of gold leaf, which is very thin and fragile and tiny bits of it tend to fly everywhere when broken down. As result, some of my jewelry may have minuscule specs of gold leaf stuck on them.
