About

Bikes, on your Christmas tree?!

I've been a tinkerer and DIY'er for as long as I can remember. I made a coffee table in the 6th grade that I still have in my house 16 years later. I would contribute the birth of the craftsman in me to my father, who's shoes I was obviously trying to fill. I remember him letting me loose on the band saw and hand tools early on, making god knows what.

I never stopped. I decided early in high school that I wanted to be an Industrial Tech teacher and went on to explore that passion at The Ohio State University. I've since been working as a high school Pre-Engineering teacher where I try to inspire others to pursue a life of doing and making.

Drop the Hammer drops into gear when my casual cycling hobby turns into obsession and a downright love for bikes.

My first project was a bike bent and soldered together from copper wire that was destined for the top of my Christmas tree. My mother suggested I make such an "angel" since my tree was apparently not up to par for her.

Since that bike had sold, I've been working away trying to balance riding bikes and making bikes.

Drop the Hammer is truly a passion of mine. I never make something just to build inventory, everything has a reason and an inspiration.

Much of my work comes from random reused, upcycled material that can transform in color and texture over time. Just like your chain rusting in the garage over the winter, it can do it just as easily on your wall. I try my best to make lasting work.
