Welcome to Dsenyo!

I am an artist/designer who fell in love with Malawi while living in Southern Africa. Dsenyo (dee-SEN-yo) celebrates beauty and empowerment. Our line of fair trade goods includes jewelry, handbags, ethical fashion, and gifts. Each fair trade product is designed by my partners and I and handcrafted by women and artisans working to build a better life and inspire social change in their communities.

Dsenyo is the result of combining my experience in fine arts, graphic design and international development. We exist for two reasons:
ONE -- Dsenyo exists to support jobs and a stable income for women and artisans working their way out of poverty.
TWO --Dsenyo exists to create beautiful products that are all about color and design so women in the USA and other developed countries can align their spending with their values.

We work hard to make sure you're happy. I am the owner, designer, sales rep, public relations coordinator, you name it for the Dsenyo label! I have a small AND seriously fabulous team here in Colorado help run Dsenyo smoothly and make it all happen.

When I'm not working on Dsenyo I'm enjoying time with my two young boys who are a joy!

About

Dsenyo is a global tribe of artisans, entrepreneurs and customers.

We believe responsible business can be a powerful source for social and economic change. We design beautiful products that inspire our customers and create new economic opportunities for women and artisans around the world.

After living in Malawi, Marissa Perry Saints founded Dsenyo in 2009 to create opportunities and celebrate local design. Since then, we have expanded our reach and currently provide employment opportunities and annual training to 100 artisans across three countries who inspire further change in their communities.

By connecting artisans to the global marketplace and sharing their personal, authentic stories of social impact, we are building a global tribe of artisans, entrepreneurs, and individuals who care about sustainability and style. Dsenyo is committed to fair trade principles and provides artisans and customers with the resources to build a better world.

THREE THINGS GUIDE OUR MISSION

1 -- Job creation is an effective poverty alleviation strategy. Because Dsenyo was inspired by the time I spent living in Malawi, I have created the company to provide work for women in Africa and South America.

2 -- The art of African textile design needs to be celebrated and shared with people in the West. I have always said how much I LOVE COLOR! Seems obvious for an artist, and I it was love at first sight when I discovered the local fabric market in Mzuzu where I was living in Malawi. The African textiles that I use for Dsenyo are the modern take on centuries old textile traditions in Sub-saharan Africa. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

3 -- Environmental responsibility is paramount. Dsenyo uses sustainable fibers and low-impact dyes where possible and reduces waste by composting and reusign fabric remnants.
