My strongest talents have always been in the making of things, most often of my own design. I now draw on my backgrounds in industrial design, graphic design, and special finishes and color work to design and make the things you see here. I worry some that the name I've chosen for my shop might imply that I think I'm some ultimate master of my craft. That's certainly not the case, but I do know enough to know that my pieces are well made, with great attention to detail. I am a compulsive craftsman and take a lot of care with things like the tactile quality of my pieces. And for better or worse, it's always been more important to me to do good work than to make a lot of money.
My magnetic knife holders grew out of a friend's desire for a magnetic holder that would not risk damaging the edges of his beautiful new Shun kitchen knives. My design philosophy typically dictates that the best design solution is the one that allows the implement or fixture or whatever it is, to do its function in a way that "gets out of your way", meaning that it should work well and eliminate hassles, not add to them. If it can do that, and be beautiful in the bargain, that's a win.
And then there are things like my bandsaw boxes, where function is secondary to form. A complete violation of the philosophy I just tried to articulate. What can I say? Whimsy takes its own path, and I just try to follow as best I can!
