About

dusty society is an online vintage clothing store curated with love.

I have loved vintage clothing since a young age. I can remember the first vintage clothing I bought. I was 13 and it was a 1960s bowling shirt with the name Donna on the front. I wore it with pride knowing I had a one of a kind shirt that no one else had. Ever since then my favorite thing to do is hunt for unique vintage items.

In college, whenever I found cute clothes at thrift stores that didn't fit me, I would still purchase it and try to find a friend to take it home. Finally, I started Dusty Society in 2010 when I realized I had acquired a whole closet of vintage clothes that fit a variety of body types other than my own. Since then, I have loved collecting vintage treasures, cleaning, tailoring them and finding just the right home. I love the idea that a 1960s dress that belonged to a Wisconsin farmer could end up being worn my a Japanese woman in 2015 thanks to Etsy.

Dusty Society isn't my full-time job but it is my passion. It is important that everything I sell is good vintage quality, accurately represented and that every customer is happy with their purchase.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Happy treasure hunting!

✩ SIZING INFORMATION ✩
vintage clothing fits differently than modern clothing, which is cut loosely to fit a wide variety of body shapes. vintage clothing is cut much closer to the body than you may be used to. for this reason, it is important that you allow enough wearing ease to move comfortably while wearing your vintage garment. vintage garments should always be worn with care and consideration of their age.

vintage garments were often tailored to fit an individual woman and evidence of seams and darts being taken in or out is not uncommon. for this reason, it is often possible to have a vintage garment altered to fit you if your measurements are off by just a bit. i am happy to answer any questions about available seam allowances, darts, and hem allowances before you purchase.

✩ MEASURING YOURSELF ✩
use a dressmaker’s tape measure, which you can get at your local fabric store.
measure yourself over the undergarments you plan to wear & no over your clothing.

BUST: measure over the fullest part of your bust while wearing a bra.

UNDERBUST: measure around the fullest part of your ribcage, about midway between your bust and waist.

WAIST: measure around the smallest point of your waist where it naturally curves in.

HIP: measure around the fullest part of your hips. This is usually about 8"-9" below your waist.

SHOULDER TO WAIST: Measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front, following the curve of your bust.

LENGTH: measure from the top of your shoulder, where a normal shoulder seam would lie, down the front, to the point you want the garment to end at the hem.

if you have any other questions or concerns, please send a message before purchasing.
