Frequently asked questions
What size is it?
Vintage sizes are different than modern sizes. I usually try to size as xtra small 34" bust or less, small 34-36" bust, medium 38"-40" bust, large 42"-44" bust and XLarge 45" bust plus. Each listing should have measurements. These are taken laying flat and doubled where appropriate. Length is measured from middle top shoulder. Shoulders measured in front. Sleeve length from top shoulder. It is best is to take something that fits you well, measure it and compare the measurements or take your measurements with under garments add a little for ease (about 1") and compare to listed measures. Many vintage items have easily tailored construction. If something is a little big you can usually have it taken in. Convo me and I can look at it for you.
What does it smell like?
I hate this question. Smell is a matter of opinion. I don't find the vintage smell offensive. Some people do. Do I wash everything? No I can not dry clean or wash everything. It's just impossible. I have too much and it would be cost prohibitive. I discount it if it needs cleaning and I haven't done it. I do hand wash a lot of the things that are hand washable especially if they have a stain. Everything is hanging together or stored together so even if I do wash it it may still have a vintage smell. If you love and buy a lot of vintage you know what I'm talking about. It goes away when you wash or dry clean. Steaming will also help on more delicate items. I usually steam prior to photographing. Please Ask to have it cleaned before shipping.
Wholesale availability
Yes I will discount if you are buying multiple items. The more you buy the better the discount. Convo me with a list and let me calculate the shipping and discuss a discount. Combining shipping with etsy calculator is always too high no matter what I do.
Do I give discounts?
Yes and no. Sometimes. Depends. You can convo me with any reasonable offer.
What is the condition?
Most vintage lovers understand that wearing vintage sometimes means accepting small imperfections. I really try to list all the imperfections to the best of my ability. Unless stated in the listing I repair most issues needing attention. I never say it's in excellent condition any more. If you look hard enough you will find something. When you are wearing a vintage piece most people will not be on the ground inspecting your hemline for pin holes. Keep that in mind. Each listing has a condition section where i list the issues and give my opinion of how noticeable they are for average wearing conditions. I also let you know what I repaired and how it came out. If you are super super picky you should probably buy new clothes. Just saying.
How do you clean vintage clothes?
There are entire books and blogs written on this subject. There were very few fabric content labels or cleaning labels on clothing before the 1970s. A lot of vintage was home sewn so no labels there. You have to first determine the fabric if possible. Go to VFG for help. In many cases I have done this for you in the first section of the listing. This is your guide to cleaning. Figure out the fabric then google the cleaning for that fabric or ask me and I'll give you my best idea. In short, don't put your vintage in the washing machine or dryer. I have a hand wash cycle and will occasionally wash sturdy cottons in the washer and line dry. Cleaning vintage does usually require more work but it is always worth the extra trouble.
Why buy vintage?
It's earth friendly.
The fabrics are awesome.
The construction is usually way better than modern clothing.
The design is original.
Everything at the mall is a knock off of something vintage.
Why buy a cheap imitation when you can buy the real deal?
No one else will be wearing your dress at the party.
