Tech Writer by Day, Bookbinder by Night

To say I am a bibliophile in a family of bibliofiles is an understatement. I never have enough shelf space (and neither do my parents!), and my to-read stack is actually a to-read bookcase.

Meanwhile, I finished school, kicked around several part-time teaching/tutoring gis, and eventually wound up in technical writing.

It took me a while to realize that I could find a career related to books without authoring them. A decade of participation in NaNoWriMo convinced me that creative writing isn't really My Thing, and I realized that doing OTHER things with books was my calling.

I signed up for classes and workshops at the San Francisco Center for the Book, and started the process (and investment!) of finding equipment for a home workshop.

April of 2013, my sweetie and I moved up to Portland Oregon, into a rented house where I finally had enough room for a proper workbench! (See photo below)

My books are available for sale through this shop, in person at craft fairs, and in some Portland shops -- see my website for the list!

Hello there! I'm Ealasaid, a bibliophile based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through The Book Roadie, I offer bookbinding, book repair, book packing/moving, and book organization services.

I'm a big believer in the value of the book as an artifact, not just as a medium of communication. To me, the form of the book is just as important as what it contains. I would far rather own a gorgeous, leather-bound version of my favorite book and read that, than own a ebook version of it to read on an ereader.

I also believe that our thoughts -- anyone's thoughts, not just mine -- deserve beautiful homes. We are all important, beautiful people if we allow ourselves to be, and both sketching and writing (journalling, writing poetry, writing nonfiction essays, etc) are precious activities. We wouldn't show up to dinner with an important person in ratty, dirty clothes, right? Why show up for your self-expression with a blank book that isn't beautiful to you? Your thoughts have value. One way to represent that is to record them in a beautiful book.

Returns and exchanges
If you receive a book and aren't satisfied with it, I will accept it for a refund if it is returned to me in its original condition. Books lost in the mail will be refunded in the amount the USPS insurance reimburses.

As a warning: my books are all handmade, and so they don't have the precision and exactitude of a machine-made book. If you're looking for a book with zero irregularity or flaws, don't buy handmade! :)
I ship as soon as I can after I receive your payment.
Shipping is done through USPS Priority Mail, in flat rate packaging, and with tracking enabled. If you like, I'll add insurance -- how much the insurance is depends on how much the order is worth.
