5 out of 5 starsAdorable alien mug!! Love the handle with the thumb rest, feels so good to hold. The colors are so earthy and it’s SO New Mexico. Will cherish it and keep it safe! I always worry about possible breakage when ordering pottery online but it was packed very carefully and made it in-tact!

5 out of 5 starsOutstanding to work with. I had broken my scoop purchase with a canister and contacted her months prior. Because of all the Covid garbage I think sales had perhaps slowed down and out of the blue I got a message from her one day saying that she was firing these scoops and I was over the moon excited… purchased 4 to share❤️ Going to keep two of them until my trusty original fails and probably share two of them with my two daughters❤️

5 out of 5 starsI spent weeks searching for a unique urn after I lost one of my dogs to cancer. I found Cynthia's shop and asked if she would make me a custom piece. She created exactly what I wanted and I'm super happy with the final product. She communicated with me throughout the entire process (custom pottery can take a little extra time) and kept me posted on her progress. I highly recommend this shop and would purchase from her again.

The Earthfired Pottery studio and firing barn in La Plata, New Mexico. Where all of the magic happens!✨
Making my living as a potter, in the high desert of New Mexico.
I began making pottery in the late 90's during college. After graduating with a BFA from Colorado Sate University, I realized that I needed to learn a lot more about my craft. Several years of community college classes, art schools, attending workshops, teaching ceramics and decades of intense practice behind the wheel, brings me to where I am today. A full time potter, living in the high desert of N.M.
I opened my Etsy shop in 2010, when I decided to commit to making the best pottery I can as a career. My journey through clay has been a learning opportunity through all of my successes and failures. I built my own wood kiln. And after many years, I finally have a great working studio space here at home.
Firing wood kilns requires hard work, a lot of wood, patience and team work. I also fire wood and soda kilns at other locations to balance out the firing process, socialize and have more diversity in my pottery. Every atmospheric kiln fires differently and produces its own unique surfaces.
Living in New Mexico, I am deeply inspired by the crackly desert floor, aliens, trees and mesa landscapes. The natural textures and earthy colors around me are weathered and worn by the hot sun and wind. This rustic feeling is also found in my pottery. Well crafted forms and atmospheric firing make these pots exciting and totally unique. Carving the clay with images and textures is my signature, but sometimes I just like a quiet pot to showcase the flame activity from the kiln. No two pots are ever the same and each body of work inspires the next.
To use a wood fired pot is to bond with the elements that made it. Humanity, wood, fire, water, wind, earth, smoke and flame. Using a handmade piece of pottery adds so much joy to my life. I want to share my creativity and enrich others daily experiences as well.
